Bait house gives you a hard time with Sharks at pier 60. They make you cut the line on any shark over tow feet. Will not let you use the net. Guess they do not want the tourist to see sharks that close to the beach

I knew some guys years ago that used to fish from the beach at Indian Rocks. They would paddle big bloody baits out on a surf board and drop them (I'm sure there were some frosty cold beverages involved).
Don't believe me? Ask Capt. Dave Mistretta from the Jaws Too. He was often the Surf Board Boy.. ;D

Hey Jay:
I wouldn't be surprised if we have crossed paths before. I grew up near Tyrone Mall, and one of my first jobs was dippin shrimp at Capt. Hubbard's bait shop right after he moved to John's Pass.
I cut my teeth on Tarpon at Redington back when we used to compete with Indian Rocks Pier for the Landlubber Division in the Suncoast Tarpon Round-up. I also worked at Bett's at Bay Pines, before I went of to UF and got a real job. Those were the days when Mistretta and Eddie Walker used fish Redington and Indian Rocks piers and dream about one day owning a boat.
We need to hook up in "The Alley" and see if we look familiar to each other.

Dangle a nice chunk of bonita or spanish mack. I personally fish down near the NSP turnoff, just up from the edge of the weedlines at night. Keeps em from botherin the guys on the piers...

Immature sharks are sometimes hard to tell apart. It looks like that shark might have a black smudge on it's nose and it's about the right size for a Blacknose. It is definately not a Lemon or Bull. While Lemons are similar to Grey Nurses (Found In Australia) they look nothing like a Bull. The Bull's nose is very rounded and the lemon is much more pointed. The easiest way to group sharks from this area is to put the Nurse, lemon, and sand tiger (nearly like a grey nurse) into one group. These three all have a second dorsal fin nearly as large as the first. They also have noticeably larger anal fins as well. The Nurse is very reddish Brown and fins are rounded. The nurses pectoral fins are up close to the head compared to the lemon. Their teeth are more like a rays plates or Molars if you will. Lemons have a prong type tooth but not quite a snaggled as a Mako or sand tiger. Seems to me that the Sand tiger has Cusps on the base of it's teeth but Sand tigers are seldom caught around inshore waters on the Central Gulf Coast. Spinners are actually from the same family as Blacktips and typically have black tips or a dusky color on most of their fins. My guess would be a blacknose which only live in this central West Coast area.
