Kracker, I have used the Tsunami (Gotcha Style) plugs and they will catch fish. The problem I had was with the hooks. They didn't stand up to the bigger fish like the Gotcha. They got bent and broke off fairly quick. You may have better luck. Jack

I love the Doc Goofy Jig with a teaser. Tip with or without shrimp. I like to fih it parrell to the pier. Also like to fish it under the pier.

Monty, do the pomps actually hit the teaser? Do you tip it too, or just the jig?

With a very good possibility of hooking up with a big Mack or Albie, I wouldn't take a chance of going too light. All my light weight reels (medium spinners) have 30lb. test PP on them. Now that's just me, but I would hate to loose that big one cause I tried to go to light. So given your choice of line weight, I guess I would be using the 20lb and going a little light on the drag. IMHO

Kracker, I would like to add, that this is based on the fact that you would be Pier fishing, not in a boat. I tend to downsize when fishing open water with no structure to contend with. More sport and a good test of skill.

obxjunkie. I do not tip the teaser. On some of the silly willy jigs I remove the teaser from the loop knot and place it on the leader line. This allows the teaser to move up and down the leader line.
Sometimes the pomps hit the teaser and sometimes shrimp tip lure. The hits on the teaser appear to be harder hits. Not sure why.
The good thing I like about fishing the lure is the ability to move around the pier from piling to piling looking for the pomps to hit. ( and meeting others).
I keep a Gotcha close at hand. Might find the macks are hitting one part of the pier but not where you first set up.
Give it a try. Let us know how you make out

Monty, I use the heck out of the Silly Willy Jigs with a lot of success, I never thought about putting the teaser on the leader though. It usually gets in the way when removing fish. I have taken it off for that reason, I'm going to give it a try. Just a note, I been catching a lot of Snapper on them also.
