Not sure where you live, but they are biting up North. (See my Hernando County report). Plan on going out tomorrow and Sun.

I was out to Jenkins pier this morning (with my two oldest kids), got out there around 6am. Started fishing live shrimp under a cajun thunder just like last week. Fished around two hours without a bite between the three of us. Nobody around us was catching anything either. There was quite a few guys out here, so If the bite was off, it looked like no one was expecting it. Because like I wrote in another thread, the bite was hot last Sunday. Not sure what happened, but it was alot colder last week versus this week. anyway after two or so hours, I ditched the float and started freelining live shrimp. Caught a few small Jacks, and some huge needlefish (largest was 21 inches). Had a cuda pass right in front of my son (I wouldn't believe it if I didn't see it for myself). A had three manatee pass us heading up stream for the spring. Not a good trout day, but a fun day in itself. Heading out tomorrow morning, not sure if my destination is Jenkins Pier or Bayport, but either way I'll be out before sunup.
Tight Lines to all

OK... I guess I need to clarify here... All the talking I've been doing is about Speckled Trout. In fact I don't even know what "Silver trout" are. I thought they were one in the same, but I guess not. When I saw EFG's response to my post (after I wrote the above response) I realized that they are not. And the only thing I got when I googled "Silver Trout" was that they are a type of baitfish. Not sure if that's what y'all are talking about or not?

Do they still have the two "fangs"? If so, I caught one about two weeks ago on a sabiki rig on the NSP. Wow... I just thought it was a juvi or something, you learn something new every day.
Went out before daylight today... Dang!! talk about a current!! That's the craziest I've ever had it!! even a 5oz pyramid sinker wouldn't keep things still. Not a fish in sight less a few pinfish and one HUGE 30"+ snook that was cruising around the Bayport pier. He didn't want anything to with anything. Didn't stay out long, There was only one other fisherman out there, and he left before I did. Bummer day, but beautiful sunrise!! Still worth getting out of bed early.

My best luck with Silvers has been the deep ships channel into the power plant south of Gandy (St Pete side). Other than that my luck from the bridges and piers has been late at night with a mix of whiting.

Yea, it's pretty cool to see that big ole boy just cruising around under the pier. But he didn't get that big by eating some shrimp impaled on a hook. I've had quite a few monsters put their nose up to my bait and just swim away.

Any Silver trout reports? They should be at the pier by now. If not any reports of silver trout off the beach? Loves those silver trout. Great eating.
