Just curious if anybody has done this, ive been seeing a few people keeping these things and i read an article where a guy was arrested for using an illegal net and he had like 300lbs of ladyfish he planned on selling.
So what gives are they any good, i hear they are bony but thats about it.

Good question... I allways heard they were gamey tasteing and boney as all get out... then the last time i was at the skyway some dude was bragging about how tastey they were...
Ill say one thing.. Hardhead catfish and sail cats are pretty darn good eating.. Not much meat there mostly skull.. but that tail section is very nice.. flakey white meat..

Reminds me of the old False Albacore thread... Some people will eat anything.

I was reading an article from the st. pete times online edition that said people have been using gill nets like the guy that was caught last week. They are selling the fish for around a dollar a pound to the wholesalers. The wholesalers are then shipping them overseas to asian markets where they are being processed into fish cakes for human consumption. Yuck!

I can believe it as I have seen some of the Asian people on the Ft. Desoto piers catching greenbacks to take home to eat. I guess they fry them up really crispy. Most of us probably eat sardines and think they are great. Later, Painter

Years ago, when I was kid, I used to go out in the Bayous in Tarpon and just load up on lady fish with jigs, and go sell them at the local Fish Market. At that time, I understood that they used them for Bait in Crab traps and such. I have never heard of anyone eating them. They are good bait though! Tight Lines!!

Great bait,
Redfish love cut ladyfish.
So do Blues.
Used cut lady fish for Grouper too.
The sharkes love them. So do the crabs.
