Scratched together our pennies to make the trip to NSP. Fishing wasn't that great. Bait was everywhere, but the eaters of bait were scarce. My wife caught two macks and I caught 1 ladyfish. But, I did bring home a couple hundred pounds of bait. We have a small garden in our back yard and are using the bait as fertilizer for it. I got some rather strange looks and comments when I told some of the people what I was doing. I guess they don't know that fish is one of the oldest fertilizers in the world.
Over all it was a good time because it allowed me to get my mind off being unemployed and almost broke.
All of you keep fishing and posting reports. I will fish through your reports.

Thats a great idea Jimmy. I set up an old garbage disposal on a stand in my backyard and when fishing was bad but bait plentiful we would bring bait fish home , run through the grinder and freeze 2 gallon buckets for chum! Don't hear much of folks chumming nowadays but it was a must on our fishing days at the piers!

Dayum bob, I'd of never thought of that one. I've got an old hand grinder/sausage stuffer I've been using to grind greenbacks to freeze for chum blocks. I found a new garbage disposal in a dumpster at a construction site, don't know why they tossed it, wired it to an extension cord and it works fine. Now, thanks to you I got a use for it.
Thanks buddy

Tommy we used to save 2 pound coffee cans, punch holes in the sides and drop over the side. Then advanced to freezing in cans and transferring to a wire minnow trap slightly modified which allowed more water flow.

ok how do you use as fertilizer? Does it smell?. Do you use on grass or flower beds? To use the fish whole you bury it about six inches below where you are going to plant your seeds. Leave it for about a week and then mix the soil. It may be a little smelly at this point but the smell will go away in just a few hours. Plant your seeds and water as needed to keep the ground moist until the seeds germinate. Another way is to mix the fish in with a compost pile. I don't think there is anyway to use it on a lawn. To use it on a flower bed you could cut the fish up and bury a small amount behind and up close to the flowers. People will look at you like you are stupid until they see the results. Jimmy
