I just cant bring myself to use snap swivels...I just dont trust em for some reason. It would make switching out leaders a whole lot easier....so those that use them, convince me that I should use them and trust them not to break or fail. Also, what should I look for in a snap swivel? I finally took the plunge to braided line (just bought some 50lb power pro), so Im wondering if snap swivels m ght be the way to go with this type of line... Ill now hang up and listen.

There are all kinds of snap swivels. So without knowing which ones you are talking about its hard to answer. There are some ball bearing heavy duty ones and then there are cheapo ones like on a Sabiki. Why would you be switching out leaders? Just curious. Also why do you think PP is different than mono when it comes to a snap swivel?
Personally I cut and retie at the swivel.

I dunno, with all the breakoffs I seem to get I figure snap swivles would make sense. Lol. That and I switch fishing for different fish quite a bit. Seems like I'm always switching from grouper rigs to snaper rigs to mack rigs, etc
As for braided Ive heard that retieng can be a pain...not true? I'm new to braid so I guess ill find out eh. So are palomar knots the best to tie a swivel to braid?

In my opinion the palomar is the strongest knot. Thats what I use. I see your issue, if your using one rod for all three types. But IMHO you should use a sanpper/mack setup on one rod and another just for grouper.

Me and my dad dont use swivels. We use a line to line uni knot. It is a strong line to line knot. Usually the florocarbon breaks before the knot.
