I know the reports haven't been the best, but I'm heading down to the NSP (SSP if the NSP is full, but I don't see that happening on a Monday morning) tomorrow morning. I'll be there around 6am until whenever. I'll be in a white Chrysler Minivan, so if by chance your down there stop by and say Hi!

Got to the NSP around 5:30 am, there was maybe 8 people on the pier. Setup about 100 yards out from the first restrooms around markers 30 and 31. Bait wasn't real thick, but managed about 50 or 60 greenbacks in about 15 minutes with a cast net. Used Sabikis to pull up some pinfish and sand perch. All in all the day wasn't bad for fishing but not alot in the way of keepers. We managed about 15 gags, but all of them were short, ranging from 14 to 20 inches. Landed a few sail cats. But had quite a few grouper that made it back to the rocks, before we could wrangle them out. I had my kids with me, which made for a great time, but I also didnt' have the opportunity to stand by my rods. So by the time I made it to a bending rod, he was already back in his hole. Flipper and his friends were there from time to time, but I saw no macks and no kings, which was disappointing, don't know if that cold front pushed them down early or what. Did see a huge tarpon right when I got there, rolling right under the pier, but saw none after that. We had a great time, and each time I go out I do better. Guess I'm slowly learning, but I still have a way to go. Left around 12:00 pm, was really wanting to go back out, but the trip down there is a long one, so I only make it down about once a month. Plan on going back down in about three weeks, hoping that the grouper bite will still be on. I need to find a new hosting site for my photos, then I'll try to get some on. Tight lines. Just an add on.... when we left, there was maybe 20-30 people max on the pier. And we didn't see anything major come over the rail. OK, here's some pics of my kids and my father in law. Hope they post properly.

very brave of you to let your rods lean up against the rail.

I was thinking about that when we were fishing. I was thinking about putting together something that would slide down over the concrete rail with rod holders in it. Any suggestions? or ideas?

Something like these are cheap and easy to make. They slide in between the rail and concrete, and are easy to secure with bungees, belts, rope, or any kind of strap. I made a few but never use em.

Thanks for sharing the ideas and pics Goindeep that's a great idea. I was thinking of something a little different, but maybe I can combine the two ideas. Why haven't you used them? If you were using them for spinning reels, you wouldn't have to cut the Y section at all, you think?? Thanks for the measurements David, they will help me out alot.
