Obviously bad weather the past few days but is anybody getting out there at all anymore ?
I’ve been fishing north of skyway, got on a hot sheepshead bite at one of the parks in the tarpon springs area, managed a limit with some especially large ones in the 18-20 inch range. Other than that tons of ladyfish and one keeper snook.
Next trip out will be skyway all night loading up on bait, and then Apollo beach in the early morning
Warm water outflow from the power plant… nuff said..

Hour and a half drive to get there but love the skyway piers. Big fish available.

You are the man! Those are some jumbo sheepshead. Like I told my niece. In order to catch fish you have to fish for them.

Well, stuckintherocks, how did your trip at the skyway for bait and then apollo beach in the morning turn out? I usually try to stay around in that area when I make a trip to fish the piers. Never fished apollo beach though.

Happy New Year, everyone! I have not been out since November 27th when I went out to Ft. Desoto. Between the frequent fronts and winds along with the holidays, it has been hard to get in a trip. Hope for some winter fishing in later this month. Would like to get whiting and silver trout.

Apollo beach was good! We skipped skyway for bait and ended up catching mullet locally and taking those out, i have inherited the first cast curse, where I catch a great fish on my first cast, don’t keep it because we just started fishing, and then don’t catch sh*t for the rest of the day. Caught a beautiful 43 inch cobia to the fork. My old man caught a small black tip shark, we missed a couple more real good bites, and then action stopped around noon. We walked the trail to the preserve despite signs telling us it was closed for erosion and then got kicked out as expected. Although the fishing was great we won’t be returning as the fishing spots from shore are very limited with out that preserve. Bummer

I would have to say that cobia gives you what's known as "bragging rights". That must have been a handful. I caught a nice sheepshead but it was no where near 43 to the fork. Reminded me again that if you are going to catch big fish you have to fish for big fish. Thanks for posting. Always interesting.

Hahaha I’ll take the bragging rights. A good sized sheep is more than enough to fill a dinner plate though! The fishing has been extremely slow for me, I still get out almost every week trying spots for trout, reds, and snook. One good snook caught by pops over the last couple weeks but no redfish and something is up with the trout this year, can’t find them anywhere..

Went the SSP yesterday from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, incoming tide, and it was a fishless. Went looking for sheepshead but did not see a single one the entire time there moving from piling to piling the length of pier. There were other apparently targeting the same fish but I did not see a single fish brought up by anyone, sad state of affairs.
