That was like throwing a fifty dollar bill over the rail and watching it swim away. Nothing wrong with catch and release. Wondering what you caught it on, if you don't mind me asking? Last one I saw caught was on cut ladyfish on the bottom in 6 feet of water. Nice fish.

I caught one a few years back in the kayak on the flats near there. Half a inch short on a live shrimp, couldn't make it fit that measuring board, Good eating fish, Looked in the Deli yesterday at Grouper $35.99 @ lb. Time to go fishing.

Stuck in the rocks knows that there is a bounty on them. I remember it from an earlier post. He has more money than he knows what to do with so it didn't make any difference to him. HaHaHa. Like he said, he just wanted to continue fishing and not be interrupted. He could easily be eligible for the SSP Sportsman of the Month award for that release.

Never heard of any bounty on cobia, when was that started? They need to start one on Catfish, we would all be rich.

Was that fish actually caught on the SSP? I don't recognize the wooden deck as being anywhere on the pier.

I read about the bounty a few months ago in Florida Sportsman magazine then heard it from the guy at the baithouse not long after. Kind of doubt I would throw back a keeper regardless of the bounty or not.

It would be interesting to know where it actually was caught. Notice that the cobia was very thin compared to most cobia that normally are very husky. It's belly was sunken in from it's anal fin to it's pelvic fin. That might suggest that it was caught somewhere that is not normal habitat for cobia.

Hahaha the fish was not caught on the ssp that’s why I didn’t write any report bout it. I’ve been fishing random sports and piers further north. And that picture of the cobia is terrible, it did not look that skinny in person,I think that’s actually from the shadow and the fish moving. Trust me my first thought was to keep it but it was caught early in the night, and although it was a legal fish I didn’t wanna filet it and have to deal with any drama from fwc.. I fish for peace, I’d rather keep nothing and be left alone then have to deal with any sort of officer harassing me.. just check my license, look in my cooler, and leave me alone. Obviously any fish worth keeping that can be kept whole will go in the cooler but something like that is a different story. Regardless it was a great catch and a fun night, also hooked a smaller tarpon and had couple other good bites. Like I said there’s plenty of fish out there and if they ain’t at skyway you should probably try somewhere else

Well I'm still looking for them out there, unfortunately for me I haven't had much luck. Waded the flats on the east side of causeway just north of the NSP and it was a total skunking, well except for a handful of lizard fish and pinfish. Did not see any signs of trout, redfish, snook or even any schools of mullet, it's like the bay is so much less productive than past years. I still blame all the back to back red tides we've experienced. I'm sure there are fish out there but not at the numbers they used to be, I suppose I need to go try some of my old haunts in upper Tampa Bay.

Now that I completely agree with, although I have gotten some luck with other random species lately, I’ve been hitting spots that used to produce trout snook and redfish in previous years, and I only catch one single complimentary undersize redfish every time I go fishing. Have only caught 2 small trout and missed one single snook since it started to cool down. I’ve actually been catching mostly big whiting at those same spots that used to produce trout and redfish. And they are all purple from being in the backwaters.. strange stuff

Do whiting/ground mullet show up at the SSP/NSP? Or any of the other piers? I never hear about anyone fishing for them. They were a primary target during winter, along with pompano and big croakers, on the northern Gulf piers.

I used to catch whiting at the Gulf pier at Ft Desoto...that is when they had the pier open until 11pm. They tend to bite more in evening or at night. The silver trout were often taken as well.
