3 days will be pushing it, you start to smell your own BO around then. And your clothes start to crust up from all the salt in your sweat. Anyone who spent summers in the field in uniform will know what I mean.
Take lots of water and Gatorade type drinks. And snacks. And sunscreen, long sleeve fishing shirts and pants. And good shoes.
Good luck!

Noon-4pm is when I plan on getting my sleep, I’ll fish the less deadly times hahaha. Gonna get to the pier around 3pm Thursday and fish until Saturday morning…. I’ll have enough ice food and drinks to get me through a nuclear fall out, and will be fishing for anything with fins

I hit the 24 hour solo expedition almost every week, this one is closer to the 76 mark hahaha it’s gonna be a first for me, but hey atleast I don’t have to plan my trip around the tides because I will be fishing them all lol! Tight lines my friend

Sounds like fun, wish you the best of luck and hope you get some great pics for afterwards. Regarding the ick...I'd bring change of clothe, soap and gallon jugs of water to wash off at some point, get cleaned up to feel better before taking a nap, used to do that offshore fishing and made a huge difference in comfort and in smell!

Can't wait to hear the fishing report after this one. Best of luck. I'll be sweating my nads off at work. A little different than sweating your nads off fishing.

You're a better man then me. If I were do it, it would be in October when you could be more comfortable and maybe catch a gag grouper.

Don’t worry y’all, I plan to handle all dumps and sink showers in the much cleaner ssp rest area bathrooms. The water coming from the sink in the piers bathrooms smells like it’s straight from the toilet hahaha ! Even plan on repaying my entry fee like a good civilian 🫡

I understand that, I work in a high volume kitchen and am constantly sweating my nads off infront of thousand degree equipment, not quite the same as that Florida sun but definitely keeps me well prepared for it

I’ll try to get as many pics as I can… but anybody that knows me knows that I’m equally content catching back to back grunts for 72 hours as I am catching larger game fish… hahahaha if I post pictures of 762 grunts y’all can’t be mad at me

Hahaha well just like that folks my fishing extravaganza is over and it’s back to real life.. already back at work. I had a blast but unfortunately my get away landed at the same time as painfully slow tides at the pier, it wasn’t the most productive trip, and far from a “meat trip” as I only took home 4 snapper, but was a hell of a fun trip. I will post a full report later this evening when I get out of work

Thursday:
Started out at ssp, arrived at 4pm. Equipped with 3 dozen shrimp and a dozen secret baits.. The tide was going out out and the pilchards were microscopic but found schools of big threadfin hanging out in the shallows. Bout 530pm I felt like I had enough baits and I went to work. Settled at a rock pile a little bit after the baitshop. Spent from 6pm-9pm just catching small fish out of the rocks, caught multiple small red grouper and small gags, more grunts than you could ever imagine,a stingray, 2 large wrasse, and got about half a dozen snapper ranging from 9.5-11 inches. I didn’t keep any though, I had my heart set on getting a limit of snapper 13+ inches. Because of all the time I planned to spend on the pier.
As it got dark it was time to hunt for some monsters. Some ladyfish around but only landed 2. Met with a buddy and started shark fishing. Tide was coming, was hoping for a just legal blacktip. Anything larger than that becomes too difficult to harvest. We sent out some chunked stingray to sit on the bottom and waited. Caught 2 16 inch speck trout, and 2 silver trout. One silver trout went back out freelined and was instantly smashed by something big and fast, it ripped out almost a full spool of line on my 6500, but popped off. 80lb mono leader and had no fray.. don’t think it was a shark. Also got 2 more 11 inch snapper. Threw them back. Around 2am the action started really picking up, the ladyfish were in full feeding frenzy mode and the water was constantly exploding with blow ups. My shark rod went off and a miserable almost hour long battle ensued. Right away from the first viscous run I knew the fish was much bigger than I hoped for, after an extremely long and tiring battle I got the fish to the pier and it was probably 6.5-7foot probably 200+lb bullshark. Although legal to harvest it was absolutely not worth trying to get on the pier. The tarpon were schooled up under the pier in groups and it was a sight to see, we try to leave them alone but my buddy hooked 2 juvis throwing small swim baits for ladyfish. Now that was awesome to watch on a 2k spinning reel hahaha. Both jumped and shook hooks. By the end of the night I was already battered, bruised, and broken. Hahah
Friday After powering through the shark and tarpon hours we went straight for the sunrise bite, the tide was going out slow. Fish the rocks and were very surprised to have no grunts or pinfish stealing our bait, only small mangroves. My buddy got his limit of snapper from 11-13 inches. I only kept the 2 bigger snapper I caught at 12 and 13.5 inches.. before 11am rolled around the heat and overall exhaustion took over and it was time for some sleep. Woke back up at 3 or 4, the tide was at a dead stop, I knew with the lack of water moment the chances of a mackerel bite were slim but I tied on a glass minnow jig and a spoon and made some casts anyways… couple leather jacks.. by Friday night the pier was getting packed and moving spots became completely impossible, the tide was slow incoming the entire night. I was at a spot I was unfamiliar with and had to spend some time finding some structure, but I had my secret baits that I knew would still be alive and well. I searched hard for rocks and pilings any structure I could get my grubby little hooks on and managed another 13inch snapper and finally a nice fat 15incher. There was plenty of tarpon and ladyfish activity but pier was too crowded to do any dead stickin. No worries I already had a blast and almost had my limit of larger snapper, packed it up for some sleep.
Saturday morning I had a few baits left but was so sick of seeing the barely moving water that I only tried for maybe 30 minutes, got snagged once, and called it a trip. Shoulda kept one of those damn 11 inch snapper hahaha
There’s a full 60 something hour report, if you’re looking for a long story short itd go more like this,
Caught a ton of different species of fish, hooked some monsters, broke all my bones on a bullshark, tide was slow, bait was tough to get, there are definitely some bigger snapper mixed in with the schools of smaller ones but they are tough to get. Until next time skywayians 🫡
