I learned the hard way what slinging 4oz sinkers with braid will do to your trigger finger after 100s of casts....peeled the skin off the end of my finger. I promptly went to gloves after that mess, tried tape at first but didn't have the right stuff. I now use gloves on both hands. Hey, who does overhead casts off the pier with a sinker rig? Tell me now so I can keep my distance..lol

I guess, And soon as they drove off He packed up and left. Real jerk.

Yeah, you gotta watch out for that carelessness, all my casts are underhanded casts, much easier and safer, and I can work the water more effectively. My last cast before I leave is an overhead as hard as I can sling it just to crank the line back on the spool evenly.

I do2 different things for my casting finger when throwing my 5oz sinker/spoon rig. 1st - Kineseliology tape (KT tape). Cut off a length that will wrap twice around and end on top side of hand/finger. Do not make it tight. (Will cut off circulation) I wrap it relatively loose...but since it stretches...it holds well. Press in and around tip of finger. 2nd - I have purchased single index finger "casting gloves " off ebay. Single finger glove slides over index...band of flexible fabric from topside of index to wrist where velcro band holds to wrist. Very comfortable...easy on and off. I cast overhand using 12'-14' leader all the time when I use a sinker/spoon rig. I also use lighter braid than most when using sinker rig. Used to use 50.... now use 30...for sheer distance when I need it. I even landed a Goliath grouper off Naples pier (125+ estimate) off 30 braid and sinker/spoon rig. I have a video of that somewhere.

I use casting triggers from the beach, got tired of taping or wearing gloves and switched to them, and I love them! 4-5 wraps around the post and I can fling that thing as far as I want without fear of cutting my finger open. Also works well for pitching close to structure or where more finesse is needed. Ordered mine from Amazon, think they were 2 for $12.

Anytime I notice people next to me casting overhead without looking at their terminal stuff, I remind them to pls keep their eyes on the hooks before and while casting and freely say 'going out', I have seen broken teeth and people getting hooked by fishermen not keeping to the safety code.

I always look behind me before I overhead cast. Many times I simply use an underhanded cast.
