Anyone fish Picnic Island Pier? Stopped by there yesterday to see if there was any bait to net. Tons of bait, but were all about 1/2" long. Pier is surrounded by seagrass beds, water looks to be about 3-6' deep. Looked like it should be a good spot for specs and reds before daylight or in the cooler months.

before all this covid crap it was good for trout and snook at night, might be some snapper hanging around, chum up with those small greenies could get a snapper bite going.I believe your posts without pics. lol

I've caught good numbers of macks off that pier on spoons at times. The beach is closed now to swimmers due to high concentrations of bacteria in the water(fecal related). The flats north of the American Legion Post might be good for reds/snook, it was a few years ago, shallow and easy to wade. There's a big sandy flat on the tip of the island that's good for snook in the summer...use spooks, spoons, or big Bombers

It's a really good place to fish, unknown to most. I'd fish there a lot if I was closer, costs me 10 bucks in tolls to go there and back. With your boat you could move out about 75yds and just drift small pinfish back and forth for gator trout and reds. From the dog park south to the main beach fishing from shore use white swimbaits for snook

Good info, thanks. I hear there is also exposed limestone ledges along the west side of the ship channel too. Gotta get down there and explore

Don't know about the ledges, there is a short stretch of hard bottom out there
