Lurked up and down ssp today… was being lazy and just trying to get on whatever easy bite I could find to pull on some fish… had some live shrimp and sabiki’d up some pilchards. I forgot to experiment with the single hook sabiki but had no issues getting baits with only 3 hooks. Tried various methods up and down the pier all day. Caught a huge variety of smaller fish.. 3 or 4 small jacks, a few silver trout, a whiting, a couple small speckled trout, small red grouper, a thousand grunts, and more 9 1/2 inch snapper than I could count. The pier was surprisingly active, with multiple schools of small jacks chasing pompano jigs and spoons at beginning of pier. Also had two swipes from nice Mack’s but couldn’t get them to hit jig or spoon. Every cut pilchard or live shrimp sent to the rock piles got immediately hit by a big grunt or smaller snapper After a long and extremely hot day I worked my way back to the beginning of the pier and was rewarded for my efforts with a nice pompano. I thought it was a Jack until she came up to the surface and jumped out of the water ! I’m sure it’s not uncommon but I’ve never seen one jump like that.. Measured just under 16in to fork, great fight and gonna be delicious !

Got to give you credit man. You don't go, you won't know. It's easy to sit in the air conditioning and talk about fishing. Read other peoples fishing reports on the forum. Going to take your advice and try and pull an all-nighter this coming weekend on the SSP. Not sure how it's going to work out. Only time I typically see 2 o'clock in the morning is when I wake up to take a leak. Have to break out some mountain dew. Time to do battle with some monsters! Hoping to get hooked up with a few ladyfish around dark for bait. I notice no reports about Flipper on your post.

Hoping to get hooked up with a few ladyfish around dark for bait. I notice no reports about Flipper on your post. Thanks friend. I’m just a guy that loves to fish, and loves to fish skyway in particular. I’d be lying if I said I don’t take numerous power naps through out my sessions. I actually started about 10pm Monday night and did try for some monsters but had bad luck catching ladyfish, they were out there eating shrimp but kept short striking my poppers and I was only able to land 3. I like to send mine out on a balloon, the first one I sent out got immediately stolen by flipper who was hiding in the shadows all night, I waited til he wasn’t around to send out the second and third. The second one got hit by a large spinner shark that I battled and lost, atleast I believe it was a spinner because it went on an insane run and was jumping out of the water all the way by the actual skyway, it wrapped in my braid and broke me off. Bummer. The last ladyfish got out and sat on bottom for only a couple of minutes before getting taken by an extremely heavy slow moving fish, it wasn’t running fast and was just slow and steadily pulling line as I cranked drag to try and stop it, my 10500 penn gets around 50lb of drag and I was almost locked down with the fish still steadily pulling, the hook ended up popping about 600 yards out, nothing broke just the hook popped clean out.i believe it was either a Goliath grouper or a giant nurse shark. The bait was tough to get but would every bait got hit.

Hey Seabird, Stuckintherocks says he likes to fish in the rain. Not a bad idea, as long as there's no lightning. I am allergic to lightning. It makes my skin blister. Maybe you could get the rods out again and get out there during a rainstorm. Bet the fish would bite like crazy during the low barometric pressure. Get a limit! Good luck.
