Grabbed some live shrimp at 5am and turn headed out to the grass flats to the northeast of the bridge to net some bait. No luck with white bait or baby greenies. Bait just isn't where I found it last year. I did catch a 17" spec and two lady fish on shrimp. Went to the bridge and fished until noon. Very slow for anything big enough to keep. Got one keeper snapper and 3 Macs on live shrimp. Fed a bunch of pinfish. Got too hot even in the shade and headed home.

Why not work the bridge for bait? It's probably loaded, recently heard there has been a huge scaled sardine spawn, so start looking for those 4 inchers that are perfect size for snappers. Also heard fishing is good on the west side of the bay and dead on the east side. Take a run along the bridge to the St. Pete side, I have always caught more fish there

I didnt see much bait around the bridge. When I was moving around, there was a guide throwing a huge net and letting it sink in 15' of water. He seemed to be getting bait. But my small net wont sink that deep fast enough with enough spread. I'm going to try again tomorrow morning, might head down to Picnic Island before daylight to see if there is any small bait around the pier lights.

If the tide is high throw your net over the back end of the boat ramp, should be some finger mullet and small pinfish there, and good luck to you, hope you nail some 16" snappers

Yep, good reminder: I used to get finger mullet off the boat ramps in Alabama all the time, they eat the algae off the concrete. I'll give it a shot. And post an update!
