Heard from a friend he only had time to fish for an hour on the NSP yesterday and he caught 6 macs with “a lot of cutoffs”. Not sure if he had the right tackle or the macs were running big. I’d definitely would fish today but I got bills to pay. The weather looks beautiful right now.
Not sure if the cold front will affect the bite today. Anyone want to lend their expertise opinion?

Anyone want to lend their expertise opinion? tried for Mack’s yesterday.. usually fish ssp but on my way there I hadda itching feeling to hit nsp.. zoned out and missed my damn exit, had to cross the bridge anyway so decided to jus fish ssp..tried hard for a couple of hours, moved up n down pier tryin all the spoon methods, crappie jigs, n gotchas.. had one nice Mac follow up n short strike, tried for another hour straight n nothing… finally hook up on a spoon and start getting dumped on the 4K.. had no idea what I coulda hooked but was just tryin not to get spooled.. fight it for a while… snagged a damn cow nose hahaha. Anyways it was almost dark so i started packing up to leave, decided to check my earlier instinct and stopped on the first open parking spot on the nsp and first cast got a beautiful fat 22 incher.. second cast.. another nice one !! Probably around 20.. then as the sun fully set no more bites.. side note.. only about 4 or 5 people fishing.. but there was not a single open parking spot besides the beginning and end of the pier..the whole entire pier was occupied by the long net crabbers.. never seen that many all at once like that.

Friend said he wasn’t there for the macs but was actually there for crabbing. He held down the spot while his kids and wife fished. He said he didn’t have the right setup for them (using 20lb leader and it cause a lot of cutoffs, he said they were running big). He fished the same time you did, right before sunset.
Glad to see the macs are coming in and the red tide isn’t spoiling to much of the season.
Hope to fish sometime at the end of the month.

I know they hadda good haul because even with all those nets out I saw a ton of big shrimp and crabs floatin by.. the beginning of ssp looked like it was possibly affected by some red tide.. didn’t see any fish floating but the water color and smell was definitely off.. whole nsp looked perfect.. also those strong winds coming from the north prolly has something to do with the dirty water pushed to the shore of the south..

Anyone know where I can buy or custom make aluminum telescoping poles? I’d like the ones similar to the pool cleaner but with a twist and lock extension/retraction.
I have the cumins brand and south eastern fishing tackle use to sell them in my area before they close.
Thanks

You can find them at Lowes in the pool supply section. I drilled a couple holes in my net handle and then attached the net with bolts and wingnuts. Makes it easy to take down and store it while driving. Been waiting to hear if it was time to head out there. Sounds like it is!!!

I usually avoid crabbing when the crowd gets too thick out there. Best of luck out there!
