If you have another choice please list it. I think this will settle the skyway slam. The 4 is for a grand slam.

Pardon my ignorance (seriously), but a slam is when you catch all the fish in the same day correct? Are all the fish on that list available at the same time? Example... are there many periods where tarpon and kingfish are there at the same time? I'm still learning here so I don't know. Have yet to catch a tarpon or even see a kingfish for that fact.

Im not sure but I have heard from Bigmikes forum report that recently a guy got cut off by a king and the tarpon are still there.

just like any fishing and hunting outing there times when there is a better likely hood of catching a certain species of fish at different times of the year. Depending on what fish is determined to be on the list, the success rate may be higher or lower depending on the pattern of that type of fish.

Thanks knottybynature, this is great. ;D I'd just like to point out one thing to you Tarpon fans, you have to CATCH a slam, not hook up and break off. To be fair we could allow a leader touch to count a a catch. Shoot, they do that in tournaments. But remember, this shouldn't be easy, although it should be possible. But if you get hung up on year round availability we'd be down to pins, grunts and lizardfish Remember, an offshore slam is a white marlin, a blue marlin and a sailfish all caught in one day. . Don't imagine that happens often. Thanks again knotty.

I say for the tarpon and goliath grouper just get it on its side next to the pier. I consider that a caught fish.

Im going with GAG, King, and Bonito...
Bonehead being the not so edible Pelagic... (love the fight) King being the fighter I would eat GAG being the 2nd of the two i have yet to land in a legal size from the piers.

Vote now cause it will lock in 9 days. Not trying to rush yah but that way the results wont change and we can look directly at it and figure out what the skyway slam and grand slam is.

i would think a snapper should be in there, i mean how often does someone take home a cobia, king, and a grouper in the same day? its atleast gotta be doable

I havent really been around the piers enough to know what species hang around year round. Seems like Grouper (although ive only ever caught shorties) hang around for most of the year. Snapper have been around in good numbers for quite a while...but i didnt really begin targetting them until the Tarpon showed up back in April/May. Mackerel were pretty hot all Fall and most of the winter...but...they havent shown up in force to my knowledge yet.
Seems the Skyway fishery is a bit seasonal...but those are just novice observations.
I dont know how readily possible this would be...but...i think a good skyway slam would be as follows:
(1) Gag (2) Snapper (3) Macks
Im shooting for something that is difficult yet acheiveable. Since i have yet to catch a keeper GAG, im gonna leave it at that. Snapper and Macks are doable, the grouper still remains elusive.

I think to simplify, 3 edible species, excluding Tarpon, Bonita, And YellerTailJacks, Should count, as a SLAM. I/E Big Snapper,Keeper Gag,Nice Jack... Or Tarpon, Bonita, KingFish.... Or Big Flounder, Nice Spanish,Bonita... Pompano, Snapper, Snook.... Tarpon, Bonita, Grouper, whatever yer luck fer 3. Grand Slam, to include any non trash species... Maybe have a Big Game Slam... Light Tackle Slam... 4 Species GRAND SLAM.. Ect.... Ect... IMHO Of couse Jaws could be included in whatever slam ya got... Bonny Heads All The Way Up To Sea Monster, and Homer Simpson! LOL... Duhhh...

For a skyway slam it would have to be a tarp a cobe and a group for the grand slam throw in a king1!

you almost need to do a "summer slam" and a "winter slam". Most species are seasonal at the piers. From spring to fall, you have a shot at grouper, snapper, mackeral, kings, sharks, cobia, snook, reds, pompano, trout, etc. etc.... During the winter most of those species move on. There are a few oddballers that come by, but slim chance at best. I think a trash slam of catfish, lizard fish and toad fish can be a year round event.
Just my .02 (why is there no cent sign on a computer?)

Here we go again folks.... The last thing we need is to get to the end of this and find there is so much dissension that half the folks don't agree with what we end up with. but, we still shouldn't try to make this so easy that you catch a slam every other time you go out. I don't think you could catch a white marlin, a blue marlin and a sail fish more than a few times in your life, so you shouldn,t expect to catch a slam more than once or twice a year. Shoot, I'll be happy to catch a slam once. Do we need to seasonalize the slam. I think that based on what i've heard and read that summer and winter aren't all that great at the pier, so we shouldn't lower the standards for a slam to meet the worst times. A slam should take a really good day and a little bit of luck. And it should be three fish, not a menu. But thats just the view from the peanut gallery. Heck, I'm still rootin' for a grouper, a king and a bonito.

While no one was looking this timed out and the results are in. A SKYWAY SLAM is (drum roll please) Grouper King Tarpon all caught in one day. For a Grand Slam just add either Cobia Shark We can argue about a summer and winter slam and all sorts of other slams but even though most of you wouldn't see reason and vote for a BONITO it still looks like a slam to me. The poll says a SKYWAY SLAM is a GROUPER, KING, & TARPON ;D

I think bonito should count (but only if more than one is landed, just so Ripnlips and his crew doesnt get a slam every time)
