Fished the north & far west side of the Gandy Causeway from the shoreline yesterday while my wife and daughter were paddling around on the kayaks. Caught a nice slot red (released) and bunch of puffers. We saw sheepshead cruising around the grass flats but I couldn't get one to bite. Only had dead shrimp, which may have been why. Lots of people fishing but didn't see much else caught. Most guys were throwing lures. Tide was very low but rising. I think this area is probably better at high tide when the structures & mangroves are flooded. But that would make most of it tough to fish without a boat or kayak.

Used to live near there. High tide is definitely better. Snook/reds/trout all over that area. Haven't fished there in a couple years but had decent luck sight fishing from the pipes and fishing around the rocks. Saw the kayak fishermen do well on the flats & along the mangroves on the west side all the way up to 275. Caught one of my biggest snapper ever under the bridge but the bridge area lacks in common courtesy & sportsman's ethics to say the least. The park on the Tampa side can be pretty good too. I felt like spring and summer were my best times and winter was tough for anything besides trout. Look at a satellite map to see some of the better spots in the area.

I definitely intend to fish it some more especially since I have my boat running again.

I heard he's just a myth! Not real. Some people see him fishes the beginning of the skyway bridge in the errie hours... (sunrise and sunset). Other people thought they saw him there around those time as well but he seems to disappear as fast as they drive past him. He might be just a ghost... but who knows. People usually spot him during the spring and fall the most there but do see him from time to time in the summer during a bluemoon. So I am not too sure if he's real or not even. All evidence points to he's a ghost and usually show up a week before the pompano is running news.
