Hello all,
Saw many grouper come over the rail. With in 15 seconds of the first cast I had a helluva fight, shredded the line and it was over. And other than bait, that was my only hook up
The grouper quest continues
Out between 1pm and 6 pm
Best of luck to you all Thundergills

m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdDU_JQeknQgotta go heavy tackle bro seen it a million times you'll get a unicorn keeper up on 40 lb test every now and then but usually the fish will win. 100-120 gets it done

80 pound braid, 80 pound fluorocarbon leader
Why not use a metal leader? The fish see that I am guessing

I greatly appreciate the advice and help from you. I am soaking it up and putting it to use. I used to bring 7 poles and have stuff everywhere, camp out as you say. Now I bring a bait pole, freeline grouper pole and yesterday another one rigged with a 1oz jig in case the wind was to much and the bait would not stay down on the bottom.
One thing I don't understand is when they do the skyway shuffle there looks like a lot of yanking and then I see slack in that line. I know it looks good for video, but they lose fish that way too

The best part of that is when someone hooks a gag and immediately starts backing up then backs into the curb and falls flat on his back out in the road....makes my day....hahahaha

i stand and crank sometimes run side to side to change angles or fool the dolphin. good high speed reel like a torium 30 or a daiwa hsd 50 sealine and all ya gotta do is crank crank crank. ive done the skyway two step and bamm too many times. that shizits for the youngsters. but ya gotta give Huy his credits. Young man puts fish on the deck. check out his videos and subscribe!

I know it looks good for video, but they lose fish that way too The yanking is just to get them off the rock intially, pull the head toward you. After that you can just reel reel reel.. but I find out that by doing so, it doesn't put any pressure on the fish and they just swim toward you and down. Sometime it's a good thing as when they get in the rock they would come out right away but if you yank and reel.. slack and once they are in the rock it's hard for them to come out. pick your poison. Find the way that it works for you.

All I own are spinning reels. Thinking about getting a conventional. Which torium 30 model is better suited for skyway grouper and offshore bottom fishing. Offshore we only go to around the 40β depth. 30HGA has the longer retrieve length while PGA has the higher drag.
