Hit the rocks monday, Set up ship hand picked shrimp, got a small redfish, then some little mangos.. Turned my back to walk down by my buddy to get a new shrimp and some German family poached my spot.. Not a big deal since i was "working" lol so i switched sides of the jetty, and more lil mangos and baby gags. then 8 to 10 inch ladyfish moved in... tide was a strong incoming full moon tide. So i decided to just play with the ladyfish, free line put a tapered piece of a silicone fishbite on and just cast after cast wore out the lil ladyfish..
Since they were so frisky and flipping off my number 2 hook, i started letting em wear themselves out.. I said to my buddy watch with me messing with these lil ladies something probably will grab it.. i was usuing 20 lb braid with a 30lb mono leader.. and not 10 minutes after i made that statement... i hooked a 10 inch lady, and let it run all over and something big and gray whacked at it, the lady jumped, fish swung back at it and missed again as i was like holy smokes my bud looked over and Ziiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnngggggggggggggg.
Now i was up current of the tide and the end of the jetty is fenced off.. this fish won't stop.. so as it is still pulling line like a bat out of hell , i managed to get around the fencing and to the end.
Thought it was a monster snook, after 15 to 20 minutes this fish finally started quitting, turned out to be a 34 inch SPANISH mack!!! shaped like a football big fat sucka, estimated buy about 10 fisherman to be 10 to 12 lbs, and the biggest any of them had ever seen.Tried to get a pic, but my new phone has like 3 protocals to get through before you can access it.. And since we were"Working" We set it free.. That fish is going to bring some serious genetics to the mack family.
