We went out at 7 am on the NSP this morning. Started extremely slow. We ended up landing and keeping 2 Mack's. Lost 4 more by bite off (we started with 20# fluorocarbon leader, that was a mistake, jumped up to 40&50 good to go there). Landed a 2.5' blacktip, pretty confidently lost my first pier king. Smoked 100 yds on the first run, got back 110 yds and thought I was about to see and land him, wasn't prepared for the second run and forgot to lower my drag back down and my 50# braid snapped after about a 30 yd run back out. There was multiple big balls of greenies, but really struggled getting any on a sabiki. Mack's were caught on shrimp on bobbers, king was pinfish fished with 1oz weight fished with a king rig. It was good to get the rust off, good to be in Florida fishing again, confident our luck will improve!

Nice report MichiganFisherGuy.
I was out at the SSP this morning for a quick 6:45-9:30 outing before work. Caught a small black drum with live shrimp before sunrise. Once the sun came up I was slinging spoons and twitching gotcha plugs and didn't get any hits. Everyone up and down the pier from the entrance to the first restroom seemed to strike out on macks during that time. There was a TON of bait. Looked like cigar minnows. Haven't seen so much bait at the pier in the ~8 months I've been down here. But no predator fish to be seen....
Saw a guy pull in a small mangrove snapper right at the entrance when I was leaving, but didn't see another fish caught all morning.

Car is packed! Poles are rigged up with some spoons and ready to go! I will be out there as soon as I can bust out of work. Maybe 3PM today. Will start on the NSP as I work in downtown St. Pete.

Car is packed! Poles are rigged up with some spoons and ready to go! I will be out there as soon as I can bust out of work. Maybe 3PM today. Will start on the NSP as I work in downtown St. Pete. Got to the pier about 4PM Friday. First, down at the end of the NSP I saw two large kings come over the rail in about an hour! I did not have that kind of heavy duty tackle with me. I was fishing a 7 foot rod with 20Lb mono and a 40 LB fluorocarbon leader. Threw a spoon and got a 18 inch mack on the first cast. About 8 of his buddies followed him right up to the pier. Thought I would get more, I did not. I did get a 20 inch Gag on a large shrimp. (Released) Also a nice Lane Snapper which I have never caught off the pier before. That was it down on the end. I then went down close to shore and managed two decent sized sheepies and a nice sea bass as well. With enough in the cooler for dinner I went home early and enjoyed a nice fish fry!
