Had a very nice night of fishing at the Northside with these nightly incoming tides, so I thought I'd share.
Stopped short of the first bathroom on gulf side for outgoing tide from about 9pm to midnight. had a few shark poles out but nothing taking previously frozen ladyfish.
Caught 3 fresh ladyfish with a sabiki tipped with squid while jigging it off the bottom. (or course the top hook is 10 feet up, but they usually take the bottom 2 hooks). Still no luck on the shark poles. One floated out under balloon, one on the bottom out a hundred yards.
Moved to the end of the pier on the gulf side for the incoming tide. Myself and 2 friends caught whiting, bluefish, ladyfish, silver trout, snapper, and a 18" shark all with the 20 or so baby squid I had castnet earlier. Used some for bait, released most (including the shark), About 3 in the morning my line takes off. 10 minutes later I have a 53" blacktip over the rail.
I recommend putting electrical tape over the hooks up to the barb. I also use doctor's gloves when cutting bait and putting it on the hook. It keeps your smell off the bait obviously. Hook placement and exposure is also huge. Theres a ton of info out there on the net...
I also recommend using black nylon coated multistrand wire followed by Trilene Big Game 150lb Mono LEADER. Its only about 1 mm thick and has amazing abrasion resistance when something takes you under the pier, or out to the highway overpass. I have no less than 50 yards of it as a topshot.
These things have really increased my hookup and catch rate for sharks.

Nice report. I have yet to catch a blacktip at the piers. Did you get the bigger shark on squid or fresh ladyfish, and was your rig ballooned or on the bottom??

fresh ladyfish on the bottom about 2/3rds of the way out... far enough to not be disturbed by others' casts.

I have never caught a shark yet. I really want to experience that sometime.

For fun shark fishing .. i like pilling 11 gulf side of north pier... its right on a small channel between the rocks.. constantly get hit by big nurse sharks and small blacktip/spinners..
About 50 yards or so on out..
