Well the fishing wasn't outstanding or anything but I got to spend a whole day fishing with my daughter which made it great. We fished from about 8:15 until around 2:30 (caught the incoming tide and part of the outgoing). It looked like we might get rain 3 different times but somehow we lucked out and they all went around us. Once it was even raining farther down the pier past the bait shop but we didn't get a drop. We started out around piling 103 on the bay side of the SSP and in no time had our limit on......lizard fish! I had a big hit on a free lined pin fish but the line broke shortly after setting the hook; broke my 80lb leader like kite string. I think it was either flipper or a shark but never saw it (it was a slower pull as opposed to the zing you get from a grouper). Anyway we decided this was not the spot and moved down a little closer to the bathroom, this turned out to be a good move. Shortly after netting some greenbacks (2 christmas trees later I had enough bait for the entire day) we were hooking up with the Mangos we were looking for. We managed only 2 keepers (one was 11" and the other a tad shy of 12") but had a blast feeding them all day. In addition to the Mangos we caught about 10 or so of the juvenile gag and red grouper, one 18-1/2" inch grouper (beautiful dark black) and a handful of Macks that were busting the huge bait pods. We took some pictures on the camera phone but they did not turn out too well. Lost about $20 worth of tackle to the rock fish today but it was well worth it. Anyone else have any luck?

Sounds like a great time bigdawg. You aught to put one of them lizard fish on next time... there grouper magnets.. Seriously.. Lizardfish catch alot of grouper.. i think they outfish pins.. And there dumb as dirt.. pins are fast lil guys and evade being eaten pretty well.. but a lizard with a hook in its arse.. Gags love em..

The biggest black seabass I ever seen caught on that pier was with a lizard fish. It was a 16" caught by my buddy's friend. I have used them often and been broke off many times. Don't know what it was but they sure seem to like them lizard fish. I been hooking them in the middle of their back but I eaglesfanguy is right. Next time I gonna hook him near the tail. Probably swim a lot more natural.
