i was out on the ssp monday from 6am to 7pm. i was just before the last bathroom on the bridge side and didnt catch much all day but a few way undersized grouper, some snappers of some kind, toadfish, and cowfish. and for the record i hate toad and cow fish. but these guys no more than 20 ft from me were catching spanish mack after spanish mack. i had a gotcha jig, key word had, got cought up in the water. and i wasnt catching any, but i noticed these guys had bobbers on their lines. can anyone give me some sure fire tips on how to catch these mackerel? thats like the one fish i really want to catch right now.

Did you see what they were using for bait? My guess is greenbacks.

no, i didnt see what they were using, barely talked to em, except for passing comments about the weather, one guy mentioned they had been out there 3 hours longer than me when i was packing up and they were getting ready to move. didnt think to ask about what they were usin though. maybe i just wasnt doint the gotcha jig right.

Kracker - First question. What color gotcha plug were you using? My choice is always the silver one with no teaser on the end. Cast it as far as you can and count to five once it hits the water. Let it sink. Then retreive it fast for six of seven cranks and let it fall again. Always flicking your rod tip for more action. You will cover the whole water column that way. Once you figuire were they are hitting you can just cast and retreive.
If using a float I use live greenies with 5-seven feet of leader. Use one of those floats with the green stick in the middle to run your line thru. Place a rubber band on your main line to stop the float. This method prevents the risk of your line being tangled when casting.
If the fish are not biting move the rubber band up or down until you find where the fish are.
Just hold onto to your rod and wait. Tight lines. let me know how it

This might sound like a stupid question but how do you attach a rubber band to the line? Just tie it around the line with a knot?

I hope this makes sense.
With your fishing line in a vertical position place the line in the middle of the rubber band. pull the rubber band with your two forefingers. Place one end of the rubber band thur the other end of the rubberband ( around you line) and pull tight.

the gotcha jig i had was maye 2 inches long, silver body, orange head, yellow hair tail, trebel hook on the bottom regular hook with the hair. so i gotta get some more, so should i just get a plain one with no hair or whatever on it? and thanks i'll pick up some bobber things.

One thing that will make a major difference in the action of the gotcha is a loop knot. Gotta use one with it to get the best action.

that night be a problem i had, i had a snap swivel the swivel connected to the main line and the snap holding the loop on the gotcha. so whats the ideal setup for me to use? i'm not gonna be fishing the piers again till i get my stimulus check between now and the 9th. so i'm gonna get some gotcha's and some sabiki rigs. if you have pics of a good set up that would be helpful.
