Been wathcing this page for a year or so finally had a day good enought to post about. Used info from MackerelMan to catch a bunch of macks with the kiddos today. Got on SSP around 11ish brought 7 home alot more than that went back in. kids were producing on free lined live shrimp(white bait was far and few between) started with 30 lbs Floro but switched to 50lbs mono after getting cut off twice. while I was throwing size 0 clark spoons rigged up the MM way. Also had a fat spot tail out free lining on the grouper rod that got hit hard by the dolphin with the messed up fin. Was an exciting few seconds when the reel was screaming. Macks contined to keep the kids busy even when they had to used dead shrimp for free lining. left a little after 3. Couldnt of done it with out the info i picked up on here.

First Off, Welcome to the Forum ! Glad that You had a Great Day. Nice to see the Fish Picture. 40 lb. Leader should be Fine. At Least that is what I use. The Dolphin with the messed up Fin out there can be a Real Pain in the Butt. Congratulations on the Catch !

I Just Hope the Fish that I Catch Pays for My Rods & Reels & Tackle that I Have Bought.
Good report and great catch qtip and welcome to the forum.
I think that dolphin with the messed up fin has a name but I can not think of it. I think it was kind of touch and go for a while when it got hurt. They contemplated trying to catch it and take to CMA but decided the stress of being captured would be more harmful so they just kept an eye on it. It has hung around the John's Pass area for a while and was being monitored by Ann Weaver who has a Federal permit to study the dolphins. She writes articles for the Beach Beacon about her dolphin studies. Captain Jack who skippers the dolphin watch cruises our of Hubbard's Marina and his deck hand also we keeping an eye on the dolphin and reported to Ann Weaver and the FWC and CMA on how the dolphin was doing.
