Looks like I'm gonna try to give it a go this morning, probably get to the SSP around 9:30 or so... just wondering if anyone else had the same idea.

Thanks, I didn't have much luck. A few lane snapper and under sized macks... got bit off from the macks a few times also. Bait was hard to come by this mornings also. |

When I've gone after Mackerel I've used 40lb mono... today the juvenile macks were hitting my cut greenbacks and sinkers as I was bringing it back to the pier. |

I never get bit off. I use 6" of steel leader on the lures I cast at Macks. Even the bobber with a straw things I make myself have a steel leader in them. The Macks don't care.

I forgot to mention... I wasn't even fishing for macks that morning! lol I often catch macks when not fishing for them. When I go out with intention of catching them, they are not there. I just go with what the Gulf gives me that day.  |
