I have been piloting vessels for more than 40 years, from canoes to a 52 foot sportfish and I just don't understand the high percentage that feel laws don't apply to them, they only apply to other people. I'm currently staying on the waterway behind Indian Shores. The waterway has "Slow Minimum Wake" signs all along this part of the waterway, yet one in 4 to 5 boaters fly through here. And not small vessel either, the one that prompted me to post this was a 40+ foot cruiser, up on plane leaving a massive wake. I can't imagine how I would act if I lived here and had to watch this on a daily basis.

Same with cars, laws don't apply to them. Red light? LMAO, Stop sign? Optional! Speed limit? Suggestion only. Same people that litter, or don't put their carts away when they are done shopping, or park in the handicap spot when they don't have the permit. People suck.

40 years ago of this summer I took my first boaters safety course, so yes I have also seen it, now a days it just seems like pure lack of respect for the next person, could go on for hours but it's too early to start drinking, and I know I'm not supposed to be cussing on this board!!

Yeah, We had this Conversation Last Year. Most of the Boaters do not Respect the Law. They don't even respect other Fisherman from any Bridges or Piers. The only thing that I would Recommend would be: Get the Boater's ID on the Bow of the Boat & Either call the FWC or the State Police on their Butts. This is Why I Usually Carry Binoculars in My Vehicle. Do Not Shoot the Boaters !

I was thinking that I would find myself sitting on the dock with a camera taking photos of boats throwing a bow wave. If that's happening they are not going "Slow minimum wake". Then turn in the photos. But darn, I don't want to feel the need to become the policeman of the waterway or a vigilante. I try to mind my own business, but selfish, rude and/or inconsiderate people force you to act.

In the laundry area of the resort someone left their clothes in one of only two dryers for over 2 hours before they finally came and picked them up. Three of us left a nasty note on the dryer. None of us saw the person come get the stuff. Must have come through the other door, or the resort people took them and we didn't see it. I have seen that turn ugly in hotels. One time someone put bleach in a pile left in a dryer and another time someone but a chocolate bar in the dryer and turned it back on. A bit overboard, but I do understand how it makes people angry enough to act.

Bicyclists also feel they do not need to follow the rules of the road. I have seen many many a biker run a redlight on Gulf Blvd. Tuesday I had a bicyclist riding on the wrong side of the road cut across in front of me and turn right without stopping at the stop sign. I almost yelled at him as I passed him also riding on the wrong side of the road. I was going to Walmart on Bay Pines near the VA hospital.

The speeding boaters also do not think about wild life such as manatees or dolphins that could be around.

This morning I watched the marine police pull over two boaters. It was a pleasure seeing them get caught by the authorities. I had a local guy tell me they sit out there about twice a week.
