Where, locally is a good place to shop for cast nets?? (dont say BassPro, I dont wanna drive to Orlando). Somewhere in Brandon or Tampa is preferred.
I know I could search, but I figure some of you will know the scoop on where to get the deals.
TIA

Wally world and Boaters world both sell them and their on the way to the Skyway. Check out the thread I started in the classified, that duid with the 100 or so rod and reels also has 8-10 nets, 8 to 12ft'ers with 3/8" mesh.
bcc, they have nets on Ebay but I'd imagine the shipping on one that weighed 15lb would be way over the price of one local, even with the price of gas being what it is.

good thing about wal mart if it dont meet your satisfaction you can return it

Speakin of BaitNets... Y'all remember the other night, I posted a report on the SSP, and I was complaining how I went off and left mine hangin on my porch? 2 days later it was GONE!!! (PERT Near brand azz new) Damn Thieves... SO... look around at the Pawn Shops, and Crack houses... Theres a Brand New 10' Lee Fischer Bait Buster floatin around out there ya oughtta be able to pick up CrackHead Cheap Check out this site goindeep... www.justcastnets.com/baitbusternets.htmI shopped around and decided although a bit pricey, well worth the few extra bucks. They'll add extra lead, and a longer rope for a small upcharge (model #cml bm10 1/4" mesh 180 bucks...) Won't "gill" the Fry Bait, ya just dump em in yer bucket... Best all around choice for the skyway in my opinion.

Tampa Fishing Outfitters on Osborne Ave. is the retail operation for Lee Fisher. If you've never been in that place, its amazing. 3,000 sq ft. of fishing stuff. Not saying its cheap, but they carry stuff I don't see anywhere else. They got all the Lee Fisher nets.

Kinda surprised no one mentioned Southeastern, they carry a pretty good supply and extra leads to add yourself if you so desire.

Southeastern carries that "Black Pearl" line, also a very good high quality choice.

Hey guys,
Id second the Southeastern recommendation. I got one heck of a deal on a beautiful 10' custom made Mullet Net (that was my xmas present last year), and let me tell you,you cant go wrong with custom nets). It makes a world of a difference when you dont have the extra line snippets interfering with a toss that most machine made nets leave behind. They are more expensive (and u better know where to toss em or you've just tossed away 135-150)
Now, if your looking for a net you wont cry over if it gets lost at the skyway (like i was)...i would recommend sports authority for a good quality cheap bait net. I got a $99 10' 1/4" mesh net for under 75 bucks (Cut them Ad Coupons out boys...or teach the wifey to). Its probably the best machine made net ive ever tossed and it opens like a daggum pancake. One toss normally fills me for the day.
You can talk to Tom at the Brandon sports authority (the man knows his stuff and is very friendly)...I bought one net from him...but it was defective. Its pretty hit or miss though with their inventory...my replacement (same net) ended up coming from Lakeland. Also, make sure u open her up before u leave. When i went to Lakeland, someone had played switcheroo and put a mullet net in the bait net box. (OOPS) Glad i caught that one.
Since the question was about buying a castnet, i thought it may be helpful to talk about mesh size as well: (you more seasoned guys feel free to set me straight...im still learning here too)
I find that 1/4" mesh certainly fills your bait well...but more so with the fry bait then the larger sardines, greenies, and threadfins. Certain times of the year thats not such a problem, but i find now the surface bait is tiny...which is why the Mackies are lacking the Fall run size. With 1/4" mesh u may end up getting a lot of bait u dont want...and not much of what you do.
Ive seen a lot of guid boats, and it looks like they are tossing 3/8" mesh or slightly larger (im not quite sure on the next size up for bait). The larger mesh requires more tosses, but normally yeilds the bigger bait, and doesnt tend to gill to many of the fry.
That being said...im still learning myself, but i thought id share what ive done...seen and observed.
Tight lines,
BMA

True that BigMack...
Mesh size is definatly a catch 22.
I like the !/4'' generally cuz I hate pickin bait out of my net, and it's just SOO much easier, and less time consuming, to just "dump" em out...
however you're totally right on all the points you mentioned...
Adding weight to your net is a MUST for deeper water, and heavy currents, and a 3/8 net will definatly sink faster and get down on them larger higher quality baits.
Me about the only time I bother throwing the net anymore is to get FryBait anyways.
I prefer to Sabiki the bigger baits.
If ya notice the Guides also Chum heavily which will concentrate the more desirable Snuke Candy- Sized WhiteBait...
It's almost like if yer gonna get serious, you need BOTH sizes...
Good Stuff.
Fish On!

Also alot of them guides are actually throwin a 5/8 " mesh net, to purposely allow the tiny baits easy escape.
(Definatly the best choice when targeting Large ThreadFins)
The thing is, given 1 choice, hence my reasoning behing buying a 1/4 ", is you can catch big Baits in the small mesh, but ya Can't catch Fry Bait in a larger mesh...
And so on and so forth... LOL (breaktime)
