Got to the SSP about 6:30pm. Fished out going tide on the rockpiles for snapper with dead greenbacks. Caught two keeper snapper above 11 inches, only kept the one that was bigger than 12. That is just my personal size limit. I got another really good bite, either big snapper or small grouper. I won't know because flipper grabbed it. It's always the same dolphin with the messed up dorsal fin, I wish I could shoot him with a potato gun. I moved around a bit to try different rock piles when my bite slowed down. no luck.
Tide went dead some time around 11ish. It was slack still at midnight and I decided to move to the front to fish the pilons of the main bridge. The tide at the front was incoming already, probably because the water has to sweep around the piece of land, either way I was glad the water was moving. I tossed a whole green back in between two of the main pilons right in the middle of them. Propped the rod up in the hole, had my drag light enough so it wouldn't touch the rail if it went off. I grabbed my other rod and tossed a chunk of green back right next to the pilon. The one propped up in the whole took off, I put my bait runner on the rode I was holding and grabbed the other one. It was a nice snapper. I was measuring him when my other rods bait runner started whizzing out line so I ran over and grabbed it. It was the biggest snapper this trip, I had to wrestle him off the pilon he had me stuck for a few seconds. I am glad I had a 30lb leader instead of 20 because it was shot to hell. I tossed another hole greenback hoping to repeat my luck and something MUCH bigger grabbed it. He was peeling drag and I had to pump and reel him in. At least on the tackle I was using I did(4500 spinfishers on 7ft medium heavy fast action rods). After a couple minutes he ran towards me, I had him beat and straight down, he was white but he wasn't shining like a tarpon. He splashed the top a couple times but never went full air born. I was too excited and probably should have wore him out a tad bit more but I tried to fling him over the edge and my 30lb braid snapped. He was a good 30 inches whatever he was, if I had to put money on it maybe it was a snook.
All in all 4 keeper snapper, I kept 3 which will go nice in the smoker. Lost two nice fish and there were a couple that were too small mixed in between. It was a good time. Now get out there and get some tight lines!
