When floating out a live bait, or any bait for that matter, on a balloon or large float, how deep do you set it at? In other words, what is the approximate depth when you get out around the reefs themselves? What is the best depth to set your float at? I know the tide will make a difference, but an approximate idea would help. THANKS!!

Figure out how deep the water yer fishin is, by droppin a weighted line to the bottom pierside. Fix yer float at bout 60% of that depth, for a weak tide, or 70-90% for a strong tide. on especially strong tides adding an ounce or two of breakaway led to yer rig will help keep yer bait from helicoptering on the top. good luck... One more thing, don't be aprehensive to float out dead baits either... sometimes the stink gets the wink over live bait... just seen it happen last week. Get ya some nice greasy LadyFish. Seems to be the Flavor of the month. What species you are Tageting is a variable to consider to. Sharks and Tarpon, ya want yer bait UP in the water column a bit more than when targeting Snukes, and Groupers. Average depth at SSP is 10'-13' in the structure... deep hole at NSP, about a 25' hole Gulfside corner off the end. Hope ya ketch a biggun! J.
