South skyway pier-maybe this spot is known by many, but here is location for those that don't know. Gulf side-heading towards main bait house from last restrooms Look for the first two signs, one a diamond one an info sign. Not sure which sign but the one close to light pole.Fish close to light pole on left side looking out on gulf, On a gin clear day one can see gag and mango homes in rocks not far off in the distance.About 50-100ft from pier.CHoice of bait sardines live forzen thoughed out.Mango's average 5# abd up.

Appreciate the information Bill, but have one question. If I am driving toward the baithouse from the last RR, wouldn't the Gulf be on my right. I may not be following you exactly.

Everytime I fish the light pole pilings, I get pooped on by the gulls.

Yeah and don't park under one either, been there, done that. Estreet, I believe, by his post, that he is fishing out in the rocks some 50' to 100'. I assume, as I do quite frequently, he may have his left and right mixed up. Heck after Happy Hour, I get my up and down confused.

No no, Im pretty sure hes saying the light pole is on your right as you drive towards the baithouse. Hes saying fish to the left of the light pole (or just past the pole as you head towards the baithouse). So if youre looking out towards the gulf or Anna Maria, the light pole would be just to your right from where you cast.
Thanks for the info billy! Ill give that area a shot in the next few weeks.

By Joe, I believe you are absolutely 100% correct. Re-read it for the third time, this time with my glasses on. Appreciate that guys, and Billt, again thanks for the info. I guess next time I go, I'll look for the crowd to the left of the light pole.

I hope the directions were easy to follow. You will know for sure the spot as the early bird gets the worm. P.S. use a long shank hook one at least three or four insches long. When useing frozen bait such as sardines which are about and inch longer then the hook cut head off but donnot throw it away, then thread the hook through the annal fin and then use the heads for chum. I seen some of that largest mango's caught in that spot. Some as what looked to be5-8#'s. Again park right accross from the light pole it should put you looking towards the gulf and then if its not crowded fish on the left side of light pole.If you got it so far you should see the signs also. Also a few more keeper gags at same spot even when its slow in other spots.

I believe that the signs are on gulf side. One is a information sign (square) the other a diamond sign or warning sign.If I'am not mistaken they should be the only signs on the gulf side. There is also the same signs on the bay side. From what reports say it looks like the spanish mackeral will not be back till end of sept or early NOV.

Gave it a try Friday. Think I was in the right spot. Fished 138 and 139 and 140. Caught fish the whole time, just nothing bigger that 11" or so. Got slammed on my big boy with a 7" or 8" pin. Got too anxious and yanked it out of it's mouth I guess. Got a few more in the almost range, so their are fish to be had. Thanks Bill, I will be back there.

when its your day it does not matter what spot your in.Just think how many times you have been in a spot for hours and all of a son another angler sets up and he or she catches a fish with in minutes and continues to do so every time his bait hits the water. The only reason I can think of that happening is (it was just not your day)even if you had identicla tackle and bait and in the same exact spot. Also how many times have you left your honey hole for lack of fish and stop by latter and notice others that are haveing a ball catching fish in your honey hole. That life as we know it,sometimes its your day.where one catches fish no matter what they use for tackle or bait. Go figure-But thanks to Jay he gives ya a starting point.
