As a kid growing up in florida in 70,s i remember seeing large flocks of pelicans at 1 time mabey up to a hundred flying over head at the beach. I moved away in 1980 and return in 1988 and when i went to the beach the flocks were like 10 to 15 mabey.I hated not to see the large amounts of birds anymore.Big pier 60 sold pelican food to the terriost and the pelicans would be just all over the place . I hated cleaning uo there mess when i worked there. Hopefully they stoped that practice.

i've had my run ins with them pelicans, thats why i prefer to fish later in the day into the night so i dont have to deal with alot of em, if they get too close i jus walk towards em and scare them away.

During the peak of the Mack runs last year when the bait was so thick, they were a total menace. I think everybody on the pier hooked at least one. You couldn't help it no matter how careful you tried to be. They fly out from under the pier right into your line. I pulled a half dozen or so up with my net to remove the hook or lure. At the same time I took off any other line that I could. I got 3 gotcha's from the birds lodged in their wing. People with trolly rigs were getting hammered.

Some 20 years ago when I first came to the great state of Fl. I had a sea gull steal a hot dog right outta my hand on Clearwater beach.
The bastard left me standing in the burning sand staring at an empty bun While locals pointed and laughed, Welcome to Fl. Newb.
