I started out at the south pier at 8 am but ran into trouble real fast. Lost two rigs including the #0 squid spoon due to snags. When I tried to get my line free of a rope that had snarled the rig, I managed to break the tip of my rod. Then one of the work boats at the pier began to go back and forth under the pier and got several anglers really riled up. At that point, I left the area. I then went to the north pier, about midway out. Matters improved somewhat. I latched onto a large jack, probably 24-30 inches long on the sabiki rig. I saw the fish hit it but this happened real close to the pier and you guessed it, the fish took off for the pilings and at that point, the rig and fish were gone. I did have a mack hit later but it was on then off in a few seconds. I did get a few panfish to take home, mainly sand perch. I only saw one mack caught and that was taken on a live greenback. Otherwise, I saw very little action by other anglers. The water was decent in clarity and the day was rather hot with light winds. The solunar tables had indicated good fishing but that did not occur. There were large schools of greenbacks along the pier most of the day. Hopefully, the macks will be out there for you all in Saturday! The weather will be cooler as well.

Good report. Broken rod tip might be an easy fix of just putting a new tip on. You will end up with a shorter rod. I had that happen to me once.
Glad you had some hits and came home with some fish. It was better than getting skunked. If they are going to be working under the pier they need to post no fishing in the area where the work is going on. Let people fish on either side of the area. but not in the area where the boats will be going back and forth working.

I went too, both piers. No action, just Jacks. Only saw a single mack landed on a spoon. My spoon got no action other than Jacks and a couple blue runners. I stuck around and live lined a couple pinfish. No action at all. There were a lot of people trying the same thing with the same results. Only action I got were ladyfish on cut bait.
