Clocked in at SS pier at 6:15 AM. There was little wind, water was semi clear, lots of greenbacks under the pier. I immediately started work using Live-Bait, Spoons, Straws, Plugs and speck rigs till 10:30 AM, NOTHING! On top of that, there were two boats in our prime spot. One right under my foot throwing cast nets and one like 20 foot in front of us going left and right. I was going to call it a day but I decided that we should pack everything up and let’s see what’s cooking on the North side of the pier. Soon after we arrived to the North Pier. It was so crowded that I thought I'm not going to find a parking spot. Went to the end of the pier and there was only one vacant parking spot. Took it went out and just took one rod with me and left the tackle box and the cooler in the car thinking nothing’s going to happen. There were like 12 people fishing so I squeezed in. None of them caught anything other than Jack Carville and pinfish on their sabiki rigs. I casted the spoon, Squid Spoon, and played with it for 10 min until I caught my biggest Spanish mackerel yet! After 15 min another Spanish mackerel, 10 more minutes one more Spanish mackerel and the 20 min after that one last Spanish mackerel. I brought the cooler back and casted several times more in high hopes! Then suddenly my light tackle penn rod with 25# braid and 50# mono leader started screaming. Tried to hold the spool with my hand and I felt it getting warm. Then the fish which I suppose to be a bonito took a left turn. Now there were 6 fishermen on left of me and none of them bothered to move or stop casting again with their sabikis. Line got stuck on the piling and broke. Took another spoon and tried it again. No more smacks. But then again the reel started screaming. After a 10 min fight I was able to bring it close to me and my dad was with the loop net ready. Bonito by 10 inches by the loop net, line snapped! Oh well, I'm going to try another spoon. In 3 min rigged up another one and in the next 20 min the reel started screaming again! This time it was worse. I tightened the drag a little bit more as the fish was going taking off straight then I felt the slack on the line and I thought I lost it but no, It was coming towards me like a bullet....I quickly reel and again went under me through the piling and SNAP! Overall I had 4 Smacks and I believe 3 Bonitos! After that I noticed everyone going to the bait shop and getting their Skyway Lure spoon and changing their tactics but it was too late now! Thanks to Mackerel Man!

ft86tt: You are Very Welcome. I told You Brother what to Look for. Now I see what I Told You, happened. Don't Give Up. Those Bonitos Hit Hard. Imagine Me bring in that 28" Bonito right at the End of the NS Pier. I fought with him for about 30 minutes then He gave In. My Line cut everyone's out there. People ended up getting out of My Way. You were probably standing where I was Standing. Keep Up the Good Work. Nice Catch. Let Me know if You need Spoons.

Thanks to Mackerel Man! That's awesome, ft! Suckers with their sabikis wouldn't pull up? There is an etiquette to pull your lines in when a guy has a fish on in your zone. Too bad no one had such courtesy. Had a guy to my left on NSP hook onto a bonito fight once. I pulled in real quick (of course using the MM method). Gotta give him room ya know. Just watched him for like 15 minutes fighting it. Finally pulled it in with another guy's pier net. That's how you do it. Clear out and assist when you can. But you showed the macks are still around. Good job. Must've been funny seeing the eun on the baitshop for them spoons! D

This is why I carry Pliers & Knife combination. I do not think that anyone would Hit a Disabled Guy like Me. The Law would Lock their Butts Up, No Questions Asked !

I just carry a line cutter at my wrist for quick cut and retie. The tool is called the boomerangtool. Just add one of those thing for easy clip on and off.

I would think people would show some courtesy when another angler has a fish on. We have done that on party boats when fishing at close quarters. If someone close to you has a fish on, you get your rig out of the water ASAP. Otherwise, you have tangled lines, lost fish and upset people.

Good report and good catch ft86tt.
It is a shame people will not move out of your way when you have a fish on. I hope they would not complain to the bait shop if someone got in their way but I bet they would go running to the bait shop. Serves them right if they lose a fish or 2.
I always either on a boat or on land reeled in and got out of the way of someone fighting a fish. That is common courtesy and if you do it for someone they will be likely to do the same for you.
