Nice. I usually do not add a spilt shot next to the straw.

Does this actually work? 4 bucks a pop for the spoon really adds up and I've only been doing this for a little while.

Yes, the straw does work... sometime it out produce the macks when smaller bait fish are around.
You can work it just like a spoon... Trolling weight and pull it along or the most popular is with a bubble right. I lost one last Saturday right in front of mackman. Just missed the fish in front of it when it bite.

"Gotcha" interested in the straw rig, eh? I will probably switch to treble hooks next time. I just don't like them but my single hook doesn't quite do it. But then again I'm not too serious at it.
I'm still looking for an appropriate bubble float size for the skyway piers.

Dpagates, I'm going to try it out with a weighted float. Hopefully that will work.

Just made this simple straw lure. Hope the Mackerels would like it next weekened! I'd cut the hook end at a 45 degree angle. Gives it an almost tail end appearance.

dpagates: You Need to Put A Small Split-shot against the Straw to Hold it against the Hook to Hold the Straw in Place like ft86tt did above especially if You are Using a Single Hook. Ask Tears143.

dpagates: You Need to Put A Split-shot against the Straw to Hold it against the Hook to Hold the Straw in Place like ft86tt did above especially if You are Using a Single Hook. Ask Tears143. There is a split shot just inside the straw, MM. It was a tad smaller in diameter but actually held in place. Two things, however. I do need to use a treble hook AND, I need to try it like Tears mentioned. Use it like a spoon with an inline trolling sinker. But I'm afraid the wear of casting and fast retrieve might tear it up quickly. But well see, I haven't thought of using it any other way besides under a bobbler of some sort. Oh, BTW. I do have a long shank hook inside that straw. I'm ready to give this a try. On my bucket list in life is to catch a something keeper with it. That bluerunner I caught doesn't count. Fill yer buckets... I'm Loving It... D

Any other colors good besides white and MacDonald's striped?
How about blue, red or green?

Tristan: Use Only the McDonald Straws if You Want to Catch Fish. It is the Color Contrast that attracts the Fish. Look at Many Lures; they all have Red Eyes & Most also have White Bodies.

The swivel is 6"-8" away from the straw. Once that Baby goes through the water with a Small Piece of Mackerel Hooked on it, I might even go in after it. We will see what Bites at it First.
Tears143: If a Fish Bites Mine First, You might want one. I am using a 100lb Leader on it. As in the Picture. I made 4 of them. Knowing My Luck, a King will get it.

LOL. Once you hook a mack and they are schooling big time, they might bite the swivel thinking it's food.

MM and Tears:
That's what I was concerned about. That swivel could entice a strike.
If the plan is to use them as a spoon, I'd attach the leader to the swivel on the trolling weight.

Guys: This is why I will be attaching a Piece of Mackerel on the Hook next to the Straw. You'll see. I am bringing a slab of Mackerel with Me. The Macks will attack the Mack Bite first just like a King would.
