Ive done the majority of my snapper fishing on the nsp, however I do know that keeps can be caught on the south as well. Ive found that the smaller ones, just like the grouper are all over the pilings, but for the 13"plus your gonna wanna hit the same rock piles where you have located your grouper- they will be there. Every place ive caught a snapper, ive also cuaght a grouper. so if your onto 1, more likely than not, youve got the other one. My favorite baits are small live greenbacks and threadfins, live shrimp, and fresh dead greenbacks or threadfins. i take the dead baits, cut the head off, then slice the lower half of the body off. that should leave you with a "bait tender" the size of a lighter. I use braided line- 50 lb, and downsize my FLOUROCARBON leader to 30 and use a size 1 owner j hook. The quick rapid thumps you feel are the snapper- its all a timing game and i let them hit it 2 or 3 times and then start "ripnlips" . fishfinder rig with a 2 ounce weight is all you need. good luck!.
