Got to the pier about 5:30am. Couldn't see any baitfish but somehow they ended up in the net and had enough for the day by 6:00am. Dive2cfish finally got out of bed (lol) and showed up shortly after 7:00. All quiet til about 9:00 or so when the Macks and Blue Runners started to crash the baitfish. Dive got a few Runners and a Mack for bait and I of course fished the customary dead greennie. Grouper bite turned on by 10:00, finally. Dive had a good sized Goliath on for quite some time before he broke off and bolted to the pilings. Lost count on his hookups but I had 6 groups on the day with the last one a 24 incher. Someone had a Poon on when I was leaving for the day around 1:00 and Dive stayed around for a little torture. Not sure on his outcome. All in all, a good day for a change. Missed the rest of the crew.
Tight Lines all.
Forgot how to post a pic otherwise would have been attached.

Hey Rich, you left too early. Shortly after you left, the Poons started up. Got run a couple of run-offs without a fight. I had two rods out. First my conventional goes off, fight him for a little then he wraps me and my baitrunner starts sceaming. I drop the first rod and set the clicker and do battle with the second one. Got him to jump a couple of times and he spits the hook. I pick up the first rod and get him off the piling and get him to jump and then he realized he was hooked, and pop, see ya. Jumped two more and left around 3:30. Took me an hour and fifteen minutes to get home. Hope they get that overpass fixed soon. See ya.

Chris, I swear everytime I leave early that happens. Lol. Next time I going to the rest area, turning around, and coming back. Took me almost an hour to get home and it's usually only 25 minutes. Looking forward to the fix also.

Decided to move this into this thread instead of having a seperate Sunday report: Didnt plan on goin fishin Sunday but the GF talked me into it...got there at about 3pm, got some bait and went to the end gulfside. Caught some snapper for a bit, then this was coming: So when the rain came, the girls sat in the car while I stayed out and got a few more snapper, then it poured so I sat in the car until it passed... Then at about 6 or 6:30 the GF yells that she has somethin big on her line, so I take over the rod while she grabbed the net...Thought I had a cobe or somethin else the way it was fightin...couldnt see what it was till it was pierside as it stayed deep until then. I could have swore I felt a head shake or 2 before we got it up. The girlfriend wanted to hold it for the pic, so here it is: Just out of the water he was a solid 26 inches. After a few hours in an ice water bath he measured in at a tad over 25. Here he is with a couple of the 6 keeper snapper we got: That grouper didnt give up easy. He never hit the top of the watewr until he was right next to the pier. Got him on a snapper rig - 30lb mono, 2/0 hook, and a dead threadfin. Called it a day and left about 9pm.

Thanks John. Funny, Ashley (the GF) is calling it "her" fish even though she handed me the pole to get him in...lol...ever since that cobe snapped her line a few weeks ago she said from now on Im the reeler and shes the netter when she hooks something big. She was so proud of it I couldnt steal her thunder.
We stopped by the baitshop on the way out so she could get a pic taken....hopefully BigMike can get it up on the pic page.
Ive never had a gag put up a fight like that...he stayed pretty deep, going right and left, even taking a bit of line here and there in between cranks. Had no clue what it was until he was 5 feet from the pier and finally surfaced. What a blast!

Ok then WTG Ashley..LOL...I guess it is her fish she hooked it and let you reel it in.
That was pretty light tackle for a gag that size, so I guess thats why it seemed like a fight. When I hook em they come in hydroplaining and there is no fight, but thats with heavy gear. Always afraid flipper is gonna grab him.
Anyway, I am sure it made your day and your already palnning the next trip.
