I arrived at the North Pier at about 6pm. I immediately noticed that there was not a lot of people fishing shoulder to shoulder at the southern end of the pier like I usually see. I fished about 300 feet from the bait store and bathroom area. I fished with shrimp and cut bait. I watched people using lures and all types of live bait and cut bait.
I fished until 10pm without catching anything. I asked about 10 people if they had caught anything and was told no. I also asked if they had seen anyone else catch anything and was told no. On average, most of the people had been there fishing for about 4 hours. I asked the "pay to person" at the front entrance how fishing had been lately. He informed me that he had not worked for 3-days, but prior to his absence, someone caught a 42inch. redfish near the entrance of the bridge, but had to release it.
I drove 2 hours back home with a very empty cooler. Maybe next time!

I usually have the most luck early morning! Other than that, I know there are mack off and on during the evening. At night you should be able to catch sharks and snapper. It's the dog days of summer... Which us usually slow unless it's sunrise or sunset... night time can be productive.
