I have just joined this site. I fish with special rubberbands and other homemade devices. If you see me on the pier feel free to say hi. I drive a blue Ford Ranger with a white cap with a wooden rack on top. My technique is to park, fish, deploy my devices, and wait for them to come to me lol. Hope everybody has good fishing out there and more importantly a good and safe time. Fill the box!

The system is developed from a type of fishing called powerline fishing we did in Chicago for salmon in the spring. It is basically a trolley fishing system.
So here is how it works.
The Cannon: I have a 5 lb. co2 tank with a fire extinguisher top on it then I have a hose attached to that, then a series of close stop fittings to where I can attach a 6 ft. pipe, can't remember what size now, I think 3/4.
The rubber band trolley system: I make a custom weight that fits perfectly into the pipe. The weight is attached to a 6 ft. piece of cotton close line rope. Then I have a 50 ft. piece of special rubber attached to the cotton close line rope.
The shooter rod: A fishing reel with a large line capacity and swivel is attached to the other end of the rubber. For this part you do not need the second half of your rod.
Deploying the device: Pull out the co2 tank and check it over, take a piece of newspaper to use as wadding and moisten it. On the end of the 6 ft. pipe where the threads are insert the wet wadding. Now attach the pipe to the fitting where the hose is. Take your rubber and lay it out so it is straight or in a series of loops. Drop the weight inside the pipe until you hear it "thump". Set pipe on ground. Now go to your half fishing rod with large reel and attach the swivel from that rod to the rubber. Set the rod in a rod holder and open the bail. Go back to your pipe and with your palm pop the fire extinguisher lever. Your weight will shoot out about 200 to 275 yards.
Activating to fish: Close the bail on the spinning reel and reel back. At this point the weight is on the bottom and the rubber is stretching all the way back to you. Once you get to your swivel there is extreme tension on the rubber. Now you can do one of two things. Grab a trot line and attach with a series of floats or grab another fishing rod with again a large swivel and attach that to the rubber, now disconnect the other swivel from the shoot out rod. You can now take a float with a large bobber (softball size or bigger so boats won't hit it) make a drop down line for how deep with want the bobber. Attach bobber drop line to where swivel meets rubber. Now up the line from the swivel attach a drop leader of your choice, perhaps 40 lb wire with a large bait. Gently open your bail or freespool lever. Gently keep some tension as your let line out. The rubber band at this point is contracting and taking your bait way way out there. Now you are fishing and just waiting for that hit. When a fish hits just reel him in like normal, rebait and let the rig out. When done reel back to the swivel, with your hand give the rubber a jerk to dislodge the weight and pull it in very fast. This gets the weight up in the water column and continue to pull in in hand over hand so it does not fall back to he bottom and get caught on a reef.
Wrap your rubber when finished over an " h" shaped 2x6 but just lightly not tight as to not create any memory in the rubber when it is in storage. I don't always fish this way, but sometimes I do.

That sound interesting... maybe when I see you out there, I'll ask you to show it to me. Some pictures would be nice as well.
