got to the ssp at 8 am. bait everywhere being crashed by macks. threw spoons and caught a bunch before noon. had 3 really good runs from dead threadfins on the bottom. i think they were sharks. the bite slowed down about noon but picked back up at 1:30. caught a bunch more macks (30 or 40) and jumped 2 tarpon near the last restroom. knottybynature snapped some pics of a hammerhead that was milling around by the restrooms. this one was about 7 to 8 feet long. it was busting thru the schools of big threadfins.

Knew I should have stayed Mario. Glad you guys had some action after I left. Ended up in the doghouse anyway. Oh well. Hope the newbie had one of those hook ups. Headed out for another try as we speak. Left the classic note on the kitchen counter. Gone fishin, be back when I get home. LOL. Keep ya posted.

bigwman, hey nice report and photos. I'm trying to get my gang together for a Fathers Day trip to either FDP or SSS. BTW one of my daughters lives in St. Pete and owns a kayak. I don't think she has tried fishing from it yet. Painter

I always fish the North pier. However last night the crab netters were rediculous, there was not a spot with more then 5' open to fish. So we headed to the south side for the first time in over a year. Fishing pretty shallow, bait fish were being chased all over, but couldn't get whatever it was to bite anything. Fished from about 9:00pm till 3:00am. Fishing the Gulf side, the tide turned about 12:30. I reeled my live pin fish up to check. It was still alive so I left it in the water right next to the pier while my wife and I packed up to move to the bay side. I am soooo lucky that I left my drag loose, because a tarpon grabbed it and ran directly under the pier peeling line off. I got to it and was able to bring him out in front. Had my wife wake my daughter up just in time to watch him dance across the water right below us. Kept him hooked up just long enough. My first tarpon, and couldn't ask for a better one. This is by far one of the most adrenalin pumping fish to catch. Nothin else really happened but that in itself made my night.

I got to the nsp around 8am, only brought up one fish (think it was a black sea bass, didnt have my book with me). Went to the ssp around 9-930am and fished there till around 1pm. Only brought up a big grunt. Couldnt sabiki any greenback till I tipped with shrimp, then I got a couple greenbacks and pinfish. Tried to use the pinfish on my grouper reel, twice the reel stopped and the fish flew off. The third time the reel stopped and the line broke. I just kept loosing every shrimp I threw out to unknown culprets, so I called it a day early.
