Oh, that smell would be a SKUNK!!! Got there about 11am, netted some nice threads not far from first bathrooms, went to my usual snapper spot to get some snaps. When I set up there was a guy fishing near the end that had just landed a nice cobia while snapper fishing (cut greenie on bottom). He said he landed it on 10 lb test. Looked to be about 3 feet long. My first 2 casts of the day got me a small lane snapper and a small red grouper. After that, I caught 2 pinfish and NOTHING ELSE THE REST OF THE DAY. Even tried for some grouper at a few different spots, nada. Bait was thick near the end, mostly greenbacks, and macks were crashing it like crazy for about an hour...we could see em, but couldnt catch em...tried spoons, gotchas, and freelined greenbacks. A few chasers but no strikes. Also saw a few shovelhead sharks cruising the area, and a girl a few lightpoles down landed a snall shark of some kind. Right before I left my snapper spot, the guy that caught the cobe jumped a nice tarpon. 3 or 4 nice leaps out of the water about 30 yards off the pier and then it straightened his hook. It was a good show. Brutal brutal day for me today. Im staying away form the 2 tide days for a bit .

Well I was hoping to hear a better report, cause I am going tomorrow about from 3 til 10 pm. Gonna try the flats and small hump bridges also. But, yea those 2 tide days can be tough so I don't have my hopes up. The snapper bite should be better at night.

Man I was gettin frustrated out there today. Even my trusty snapper spot didnt produce. At the very least I usually get some shorts, but not today.
How do you usually fish the flats?? On my way out I stopped before the hump bridge and tossed out a few lures just for the heck of it but I dont know what usually works around there.
Saw a couple of guys wading....I might have to give that a shot soon as well. Id like to try for some trout or reds.

I don't fish the flats cause I am not an eager wader, might think about getting a Yak. But will try a little tomorrow. Snook and Reds Pomps and Flounder can be caught there on the SSP hump bridge, but I never seem to stop there. I have been nothing but a grouper digger. So knowing its tough fishing right now, I am gonna spend some time in other areas. Will use Doc's Jig, Microdine, DOA's, live shrimp and some swim baits, plus anything else in my tackle boxes. What time did you leave? I bet the current was rippin

I left at 4:30ish, and yeah the water was movin pretty good. Slack tide seemed to last forever today...high tide was about 1:30, and I think it was close to 3 by the time the water started moving out.
Where can I buy a few Docs jigs?? Maybe in Brandon somewhere?
