Heading down to Ft Desoto campground with my motor home this weekend, its the first time there. Would like some suggestions on where to fish, what kind of fish are in that area and where to get bait. must be kinda close to the campground, not bringing a second vehicle and not a big walker Thanks

There is a bait store on the right side of the road after you cross the draw bridge in tierra verde going south. As for the campground fishing, I have caught redfish, snook, flounder, spotted trout, silver trout, and whiting all while wade fishing and kayaking around the campgrounds. The fish selections vary during the time of year I am camping there though.
If the mullet are schooled and jumping it is a good sign for redfish in those areas. If you do not want to buy live shrimp daily I have been using white gulp shrimp or penny under a bobber by the seagrass areas and I use a white jig around the oyster bars in the inlets by the campsites.
Good Luck!

Take a shrimp net, head lamp and bait bucket and keep yourself stocked with shrimp. We been netting them at night, some suitable for the grill.

Hey, The campground is on Saint Christopher Key. On the west side, just about to the south/west corner is a pretty nice lil hole thats also full of grass. You can see its while wading. I've caught many trout, both silvers and spots, snook and reds there. Early morning as the sun is rising or catch the late afternoon out going tide. I havent checked tides yet for this weekend.
Good Luck

you may have seen this before, but its really a cool 360 of Ft Desota...give it time to load and then you can move it up and down and left and right. You do have to have qicktime player installed. www.baynews9.com/images/bn9/desoto.mov
