Howdy Big guy, just wondering if anything has changed in the Mack or King bite out there. Thinking about splitting my time Friday/Saturday between the two sides. As always, appreciate it.

Jack, I have had reports of macks being landed over on the ssp with spoons and gotcha jigs. on the nsp i have only a few mack reports during the day i just cant figure them out they should be flying over the rail this time of year.Lots of gags in the 14" to 20' range with a keeper every now an then also i was told the snapper bite is hot on the nsp at night some good catches are being reported from anglers drowning shrimp and small greenbacks.we did have a few cobia over the past weekend in the 30" range.Lots of bait pods on top and some big poons also. BM,
Don't know what it was like yesterday morning on the NSP but fished the South from 5:30am til 11:30am. All quiet til about 9:30 or so. Countless schools of baby threads from the gulf side attacked by macks. When they reached the pier, they were attacked by blue runners which looked like a volcano near the pilings. And then the Poons attacked the runners. Caught the runners in the cast net half a dozen at a time. Don't need to tell you what happened next when they were (runners) on the hook. Sore as xxxx, no hooks, leaders, or lead left but what a day. To top it off, the Pier was empty. Life is good......... Wish the rest of the "alley crew" was there for this one. Just home from a long work night but had to post it. It's times like this that just make ya just keeep coming back for more....................................................

BIG MIKE I and I'am sure others feel the same about the mackeral run at the piers.I been saying there has got to be something just not right. It can't be the bait fish at either pier as the reports all indicate plenty around. However one thing seems the same as last year.I have been hearing of huge schools of large macks in the 4-8# range being seen north of the piers and in what the tribune reported last year the MIDDLE grounds or just off Mcdill AFB. It seems the same pattern is takeing place as last year. Last year it was bait so thick around both piers that appeared that one could walk on top of them. I wish I knew what the problem was,its not that there is no bait just not enough hanging around the piers tight OR is it to many other fish feeding on them so they stay away from the piers.

BillyT, I have strated to see more macks landed on the nsp this past few days but most anglers are fishing the bottom for snaps and gags i will let anglers know to try and fish up top with spoons and gotcha jigs this weekend i have a feeling that the macks are here now.Today i was watching the large bait pods around the nsp and they seem to be on the run from something and i think its macks. We did see alot of cobia on top around the pier today and several reports of BIG tarpon.I think its worth a shot to do the top water thing now and lets see whats going on.
