went to the ssp monday , set up started fishing at 8:30 am, the tide was strong. caught a couple of macks on a silver cleo. a lot of bait around nada after that. tide turned went to the gulf side, started to catch macks and blue runners on a silver cleo 2/5 oz. caught about 10/15 macks released every one. can you clean your catch on the pier. saw one guy clean his catch about 10 macks and leave. load and behold he was back a couple hrs later cleaning more macks I know he had twice the limit, the nerve of somepeople. where is fwl when you need them. also hooked 3 tarpon in the water way between the bay side and the gulf side. I don't know if i had the same tarpon on 3 different times or had 3 different tarpon on . got jumps on all 3 fish. of course all 3 were self released hit silver 2/5 oz cleo. it was an enjoyable day of fishing tight lines newyorker 1

any where's 15/18 inc. not real big, but the tarpon were about 20/30 lbs good fight while i had them om 10 lb power pro 30 lb leader. on a 7' 6 red bone hurricane rod. I fish with light line and med action rod either fenwick, red bone, st.croix, orvis I like good rods. that will last. the same with reels . some reels that I fish with are over 30 years old and they work fine as long as you take care of them , the same with the rods. I still use an fenwick that's 46 years old , never had it redone and it still wirks fine the cork is beat up a little not enough to get it recorked as of yet. tight lines newyorker1

was an 2/5oz silver cleo. smi-fast return, near the top. at the time there were a lot of bait around, i guess i got lucky to have them on. boy they sure hit hard i always catch my macks on cleo's, silver/gold 1/3oz. sometime they hit far out as soon as the spoon hits the water , other times it sinks an they hit it . you never know how they will hit. about cleaning your fish on the pier can you do it. I heard you can not because fwl can't tell if the fish was under size or over size, when the fillet is in the cooler . i would like to know also how come the bay has 1,2,3,4, on some days. where we moved from we had 2 lows2highs in an 24 hr period every day of the week no one tide and so on . when i go to the ssp i use 1/3oz cleo's spinning different colors all of the time. half blue.half siver ,red silver etc.I'm from up north used these cleo's to catch rainbows, lake trout pike, bass, or any fish that will hit them . i don't know if they sell them around here, i got mine at cabla's years ago.i think they opened one last mo near ocla off of 75 and 301.tight lines newyorker1

The 2 tide vs 4 tide days I'll leave for someone smarter than me to figure out, probably has something to do with the sun's and moon's position in relation to earth at different locations. As to the FWC and cleaning fish on the pier....you can clean your fish when you are finished fishing for the day and are packed up and ready to leave. Think of it like a charter boat not cleaning fish until they are back at the dock. Do not clean any fish and then start fishing again. I think it is all on the Myfwc.com website, but I'm to lazy to look it up.
