Got out to the ssp about 7am. Fished the beginning of the pier for spanish macs for about an hour and caught 3 decent ones on greenback fillet under a bobber. 8am the tide dies so I pick up and go to try for grouper on the artificial reef. Throw a large mackerel head out on my shark pole hoping for a bull and get a nice hit but miss it. Throw out another and this time I managed to pull a keeper gag out of the reef. I throw out my last mac head and hooked into what I thought was the fish of a lifetime. Fought it for about 30 minutes, pulling literally as hard as I could the whole time. It finally comes up to the pier and I get my first look at it and it was...a sea turtle the size of a childrens pool. Had to be 2-300lbs.Disheartened I cut the line as close as I could and went down to the end of the ssp with little luck for the rest of the trip. Went home about 1pm because of the never ending lovebugs and heat. I saw a bunch of tarpon cruising around under the pier today..whats the best bait to get their attention?
