Okay guys like I said before lots of fish to be caught and great boat (little slow) but suits Tommy just fine. Everyone met up at the Skyway North Pier and the crew consisted of Tommy, his son JJ, Rich, Skyjay, and myself.
The bait wells were loaded to the top with pins, spot tails, some blue runners, and i contributed with a few more.
We left the piers and headed to the boat around 6am and were on the water by 7am and was greeted by one of these
On the long ride out we were trolling and got the first hit around the 50-60' mark and two macks gets on ice.
Then flipper decides to follow us and say we're giving the guys at skyway a break today and bother you guys trolling.
First stop Jay got the first hit on a frozen dine and missed the strike, I think Rich then gets the 2nd hit and pulls up a short red grouper, then I send down a live pinner and get knocked and pulled up a short red grouper in the "teens" then jay sends down another bait and he's hooked. Seemed at the moment the Bow, Starboard and Port were getting more bites than the Stern. Every bait sent got taken and then Jay gets hammered by the first Red Grouper! Rich also then gets knocked and missed what would've been another keeper. Things goes on for what seemed like about an hour with tons of short red grouper and a few gags mixed in the pot and we move onto the next spot.
Second stop we moved further down and same showing of reds, and i'm on fire with the skyway sized gags. 18", 19", 20", more and finally one that shows promise goes to the tape to tap out with a pinch tail about 21" Then everyone is just getting red after red shorty after shorty man we'er all having a blast! The bite then slows and Rich decide to take out a jig tipped with sardine, and immediatly gets hammered on a small baitcasting combo. Another red comes up. We move onto the next spot and more reds! Then JJ decides to use a light setup he uses on the pier for bonita and pulls up some fat grunts! Sweet! Then he gets nailed and pulls up a nice little scamp too bad too small back into the deep blue. On this spot i must've been sleeping or to busy trying to throw a flat line and my pin some how found himself in a rockpile or maybe a groupers mouth and got stuck. Line breaks oh well.
Re-tie and then we move onto the last spot after that they seemed less active and didn't want any livies until i get smacked on a fat pin, puts a good fight for the first 10' or so then i'm like the fights gone, i measure a 19" red grouper back down he goes. By now we're all tired, me espically and JJ's still got his light action putting more grunts into the cooler and Rich decieds to drop his jig again and gets more Reds all teens no keepers. By now captains like gotta start packing up and we'll be in the dock by 7:30.
Troll rods goes back out and i make myself confortable on the bow and i wake up to hear get the Gaff! The boy's are hooked on a nice King and I seem them try to flip it into the boat! smacking forehead! Then after a failed attempt the gaff finally gets there and hook spits out or something.
We get back and I got a few nice pics of some million dollar homes.
