I know how yall love reports, so heres my latest. Got back in town late late late Sat night...er, um, early early Sun morning....Got to the pier about 5am. Slept in my car until about 9 or 9:30 since I had no sleep due to a road trip Sat night.
So...looked for bait, it was DEEP early, but managed to get some. Tried a few different places while the girlfriend was still asleep (she didnt wake up till 11am so I had time to fiddle around a bit)...not much happening anywhere for me so I went to my usual spot to start on some mangos...saw Ripnlips and crew on the opposite side for a while before they went to their usual spot (sorry guys, didnt make it down there...I WILL fish with you guys one of these days ). I hope yall had some luck down at the "Y".
Not much happened at my usual spot, water wasnt moving much...so tried a few more different places here and there without much luck...headed back to my spot (we love catching them mangos) and didnt catch squat until about 3:30pm...then the snapper bite went crazy, and between the 2 of us we caught about 30, maybe only 9 or 10 were short . Almost every one we pulled was keeper size . Took home our limit, all ranging in size from 11" to 13.5", with 5 of them being 12". Gave a few keepers away to folks fishing next to us that werent having much luck. Also hooked alot of people up with bait since I finally figured out how to throw my net, which was cool cuz Ive needed help getting bait plenty of times, so its kinda cool to be able to help others out now. Had to put the net on the bottom most of the day to get the bait, it didnt come up too often.
So before we left we went to a spot that has been producing decent grouper, and we didnt get even a bite in an hour and a half. The only grouper I hooked today were before noon - two reds that were about 5 inches each.
By the time we left the place was PACKED, and there was a long line of cars at the tollbooth waiting to get in. Busy busy busy.
Didnt really see much else caught today anywhere. It was a long hot day, but we had fun slaying the mangos and talking with the folks around us.
Cant wait to hear how the guys did on the charter boat, but for now heres a pic of todays haul. The top left fish was the 13.5 incher, although he might not look quite that big after being on ice all day.
Till next weekend....tight lines and full coolers.
