ok fellow fishers.... besides the old bucket n rope trick for clean water up to your bait homes, what do you all think about a pumin system that will bring fresh up n old water out?? without breaking your back/arms (lol) Any ideas?.....maybe a sub pump strong eunff to carry the water up that far of a distance the bait home then some type of drain?? hmmm, kinda like what the bait shops use...... but not using a 1hp motor...tryin to keep this thang light n quiet... tight lines ;D

Hey , I have the same problem. Been using the bucket n rope trick too. Getting too old fer dat stuff. A pump must be large enough to produce approx. 20-25' of head. (The height from water level to the pump). I havent found one thats small enough that runs on 12 volts. Hope somebody has the answer. I'm going to go look again now while thinking about it. Maybe Grainger or some other commercial outlet has one. I'll let ya know what I find.
Good Luck n have a good Memorial Day weekend

there's a Saltwater outlet, behind the baitshop at the South Pier. Tell em Jay said it was ok to use it. LMFAO
Be discreet.
ps, have tried all sorts of things simular in nature to what you suggested, with no sucess...
Be interested to know how it werks out fer ya.

Hey again' www.envisupply.com/www.envisupply.com/equipment/miniTyphoon.htmCant believe I found one that quick. Looks like a good rig to me. All stainless and PVC construction. 30 lift capacity at 2GPM. Hook up a section of tubing to pump, drop over the rail and hook up to 12 volt battery. I'm gonna buy one unless somebody posts a better rig.

Harbor Freight Item # 09576. 12 Volt Marine Utility Pump. 240 Gallons Per Hour. "23 foot lift". The lift is a necessity to draw the water up to pier level! Most of the other pumps do not have the lift capability Made several of these and used at the pier. Have kept bait live for 3 days with this set up!

With the amp's they draw you will need to use your car battery with it running, not just a small lawn mower battery. I solved the problem with a smaller 2 gal bucket. More trips but a lot lighter.

i copied this from the reviews tab on that link. it may present a problem.
Does not self prime, May 21, 2008 By nd96 from Princeton, Tx (read all my reviews)
"I bought this pump because of the listed self-priming feature. However, it will not self prime - even 2 inches above the water level. Once pumping, it does an okay job off the 12v batteries, but I really needed something that was self priming. Was a waste of money for me."

RE; Harbor Freight Marine Pump. We used a 12 volt deep cell Marine battery so as to not have to use truck battery!

Just remembering when I was a kid and we went to Indian Rocks beach just about every summer. The owner of the place we stayed at had a wooden water tank mounted above the live well on the fishing pier and a pitcher pump to fill it up. We kids thought it was great fun to see which one could fill the tank fastest each day. The bait, greenbacks and fiddler crabs were free while you rented a cottage for the week about $50-$75 per week. NO A/C, TV or indoor bathing until about 1960. Heck we even helped catch fiddlers on the mud flats near Bay Pines, herded them into a croaker (gunny) sack like cattle into a corral. Later, Painter

looks very expensive, starting at 450+ you would have to drain the bay to be very cost efective

I have a operational system with the pump I described! I have offered the system to Skyjay with the 12 volt Marine battery at no cost. I will deliver it to the pier! Awaiting his reply!

hey guys i did some google research and found this
"Due to suction pipeline friction losses, a pump rated for a maximum suction head of 13 feet may effectively lift water only 10 feet. ..."
So if your going to invest in a pump that will give you a live feed straight from the water below make sure you get one that is sufficient enough good luck...

Bob, Could you post some photos of your pump rig or let me know when you will be at the pier with one? I've considered building one like this for some time and have looked at several pumps. Thanks, MadbeachJim@verizon.net

Jim, I'm planning on going down to the pier this coming week to deliver this unit. No set time yet. Jay and I are trying to coordinate.
I posted some pics a couple of years ago. Will try and find them or will take some new ones shortly!

scaffolding crews that have to transport buckets of water or mortar up several stories use "hoist arms". its a simple tubular frame that could wrap around a rod holder. it has a pulley out over the water, about 2 feet higher than your head. it makes lifting heavy buckets extremely easy. it also rotates so it is easy to swing the bucket over the pier. it could also be used to lift out cast nets thrown close by or heavy fish. there are also pulleys with gears that could make it so simple a child could lift a couple hundred pounds.
just a thought in case the pump idea becomes too $$$ or cumbersome. these arms dont take up much space and should be relatively cheap

Same pump without a doubt! I have three of them and one setting on my desK. Sometimes E-bay exceeds info for some reason. His bid price is right but if you check his shipping it might be cheaper at Harbor Freight.
I am giving a set up to Skyjay. I have an extra new pump which you are welcome to! Cleaning out the fishing shed!
