I have a friend in the hardware business (gets everything wholesale) who went out to the pier for the first time last weekend. He noticed how a lot of people lean their rods against the concrete railing, so of course he mentioned scuffed and lost rods. Then he saw some kind of homebuilt rig that holds the rod vertically and would seem to prevent it from going overboard.
He said he could build a rod holder out of pvc and a bungee cord for a couple bucks, and if enough people expressed an interest, he could sell them for like 4 bucks each, so I told him I would pass it along. Anyone interested? Or does anyone know something that works better?

Maybe he should build one and post an image on the site. Would be great to see what he came up with.

I made mine out of PVC with the "Y" or 45. Modified with a notch to lock in the reel (thanks to Havetofish, I believe, for the idea). Still use a dog leash to be sure it stays on board. But if he's got something new, I wouldn't mind checking it out as well.

I was looking at the post on the other board and there is one thing I would change is, i would put a 4 way "T" on it with 2 4"- 6" pieces of pipe. This should square up the holder. i will take pics of the one I am going to build for Sunday.
