Fish will shrink in the cooler

Hey all,
Just read a good grouper story posted. Be careful, a 22" grouper will end up 21 1/2 when iced for a couple hours. The game man may or may not allow for shrinkage if he checks your catch. Probably not. Let that 22 go home is my advice. Hurts but the fine will hurt lots worse.

wow, i never new that. i would have never thought of it but it seems to make sense though. because the cells could tighter as the core temp lowers allowing the fist to do that. sorry for the nerdy response but i didnt want my response to seem like a wise a$$ comment when it wasnt, so i figured i would be long winded to keep it from looking that way.

Funny you mention that though, cuz me and my girlfriend have talked about this a few times in the last few weeks. Sunday when we got home, she wanted to remeasure our fish to test the theory and sure enough, they were both about a half inch shorter than they were when we caught them.


That said, the only place Im throwin any 22 inchers I catch is in my cooler. ;D

I wonder If them Poachers pinch the tail! , to make sure them 18 inchers they're hidin in thier trucks n cars, aren't gonna P the GW off? ( LMFAO) (amazing how slick them bastandanditos think they are a'int it)( they land the shorty, look to the left, look to the right, head for the truck... and poof, there goes another'n)

Make sure U Ice Em good, and they don't soak in the water in the bottom of yer cooler, and U should be ok.

Most of them G.W.'s ain't THAT much of a hard azz...

They're aware of the obvious...
