so i had my shark rig out last night with a live ladyfish on the end. my line takes off steady, but not fast, for about 20 seconds before i tighten the drag down to adjust for how much line i have left for a fight. after that, the line was being taken off in steady one second spurts with one second pauses... almost like how a stingray would "flap" as it tries to swim away.
anyway, after it finally stopped taking out line (about 1 minute), i tried to gain some line back. it took some more line out, and i probably only gained 2 or 3 feet back. after another minute of struggle just to keep it from taking more line out, the line snapped somewhere near the swivel, but not at the knot, which obviously im not happy about. (screw mono, im going braided from now on.)
does this sound like a stingray? that was my guess, but i have no experience so...
by the way, the fishing was awesome last night on the NSP. bright full moon, beautiful night. I was there from 7pm to 8am. 4 keeper mangos that i gave away, 2 ladyfish, a silver trout, which a dolphin took while freelining it, a 30 - 40 pound tarpon (finally kept it out of the pilings), this mystery stingray hookup, and a 5 - 6 foot long jewfish. the few people that were fishing caught a lot of mangos, ladyfish, a 3 foot shark (sandbar?), an 18 inch spotted trout, a 21 inch gag, a couple spanish macks in the morning and a 13" jack crevalle. there were a ton of crabs and shrimp that went by. may be forgetting some others...

Ive hooked into some sting rays and they just bury themselves in the sand so you gotta walk side to side and pull them from different angles to lift them out.
